Here is the fuel requirements for the gm 6.2 out of the owners manual, will it run on regular gas yes, would anyone in there

right mind pay 50K for a truck ---read this and then not use premium???? I wouldnt!!! Perhaps some people would????

If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine(VIN Code J), use premium unleaded gasoline with a postedoctane rating of 91 or higher. Regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 ctane or higher can be used, but acceleration could be reduced, and an audible knocking noise may be heard. If the octane is less than 87, a heavy knocking noise may be heard. Use 87 octane rated gasoline or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, the engine could be damaged.

Here is the fuel requirements from the Ford owners manual

Octane recommendations

3.7L V6/5.0L V8/6.2L V8 engines

“Regular” unleaded gasoline with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87 is

recommended. Some stations offer fuels posted as “Regular” with an

octane rating below 87, particularly in high altitude areas. Fuels with

octane levels below 87 are not recommended.

Sorry if you own a gm 6.2 and I touched a nerve but the gm 6.2 should definately have premium and the Ford doesnt need it.

The GM 6.2 does not need premium, it is recommended. Saying otherwise contradicts the manual. It makes sense to use it for the power gains- Blackbear has proven that you leave a lot on the table with any of the GM V8s using 87, especially the 6.2. And while Ford may be mum on the 6.2 using premium, I've read that Super Duty owners see big gains running it. The only reason any of these engines say to use 87 is because people are cheapskates- they'll spend $30-$60,000 or more on a pickup and then hunt around for the cheapest garbage fuel they can find. Even in my 5.3 before the tune I ran premium or E85 because the engine just ran better.

Regardless, making a decision based on fuel octane needed is stupid- you're talking maybe $5-$8 per tank difference over regular. That's just a few hundred per year, not exactly earth shattering for most of us. Eat a meal or two at home instead of out each month and you're even.

I have always put premium in all my vehicles, the price difference is what, $5 dollars a tank. Some of you here just sound like cheap whinny little babies. If you can't afford the $5 dollar difference to fill up your truck you shouldn't be buying a new one in the first place. Secondly, if you don't have the money to get yourself into a 14 truck why complain to the rest of us about it. This type of "cheap" attitude is why all our North American companies have to take bailouts and move their companies to third world countries. You bitch and moan about a car or truck or any other commodity that it's too expensive and then you bitch that a company had to take a bailout or move to another country. We the consumer dictate what the manufacturer and seller do, don't forget that. On a side note I will say that I drove both the 13 Ram and the 13 Ford before I bought my 14 Sierra and will say this, the Ram had a great interior and a great ride but I don't like the suspension set up for a truck and I hated the 8 speed. It seemed like it was always shifting and really took away the potential of the Hemi. As for the Ford, the truck just felt a little dated to me and didn't like the interior. The 5.0 also felt a little sluggish and didn't feel as stout in the bottom rpm's as the 5.3.

People can express their opinion regardless... lol. I haven't seen any posters in this thread complain that can't afford a new truck. But as most do you infer by what an individual drives lol. It truly makes me laugh.

Lots will wait to the rebates hit and buy your truck for $10k less than you did. I know you don't care and you shouldn't either. Premium in an enginw that doesn't need is a waste too but I do that too so whatever.

I was directing the premium fuel thing towards those that were complaining that the 6.2 required it. I do agree that on engines that don't require it, it is a waste. On most modern vehicles you will see a difference so it's not bad practice.

That I agree. If you have something that has a static compression ratio of 10:1 or higher as most new engines do I would run the better fuel. Even running premium to avoid the ethanol isn't a bad thing. Not for mileage as much as for knock... it does attenuate the issue as I proved with my SRT8. Once I slightly richened the car I could run 94 octane fuel with 10% ethanol with no detonation and get away with a little more timing. Same base fuel/timing not so oddly enough had substantially less observed knock on 91 without ethanol. E85 would be fun... if they sold it here. E85 is compensated for but good old E10 is always a compromise

So now you guys have me wondering does the chevy 6.2 need premium or not?

The owners says it does but you guys say no, what makes you say somthing

different than the owners manual? If it doesnt that would be huge for me, yes it does matter

at 55 cents extra and climbing per gallon here. I usually use 89 with no ethanol

so are you guys saying that would be fine for the 6.2?

They are saying you can run whatever fuel you choose, but premium will run the best and GM recommends it.

The older 6.2's knock and piston slap regardless of what you do but you will have a smoother idle and more timing e.i power if you use 91. Your not hurting the motor but you are missing out on power if that's what you so desire (I do haha).

No one really says no. It will run on 89 fine and possibly stay in the high octane timing table with it depending on various factors including load. 91 will ensure it stays in the high octane table and makes whatever it can for power. Its 10.5:1 compression but probably has like 20 degrees wot advance so its hard to say. I need to download a 6.2 tune to look again.

I test drove an 11 F-150 5.0 before buying my current truck. Lets just say that if I could have gotten it cheaper than my Silverado it would be in my driveway right now.

Same here, when I was shopping for my 2012. Too bad my local Ford dealer was sky high and wouldn't budge, and the owner of my local Chevrolet dealer is a good friend of mine, haha.

Prices on new half-tons are a joke. I purchased my '08 brand new and always insisted I'd never do it again. Then when the hype started building towards the "new '14's" i started saving my money and I sold off my '08 and was gona put down a nice chunk on a new crew cab. Then I looked at the prices, scoffed, and then went to the ford dealer and scoffed again.

Long story short now I have a crew cab long bed diesel. whats the point in paying all that $ for a tonka toy when u can get a real truck.

I agree with that.... did the same

To all the gmt900 owners that say the k2 is ulgy...have you looked at your truck lately? The new truck looks, drives, and handles better. If you don't wanna spend 50,000 on a truck then buy a base model or buy a ford or dodge and go complain to them.

Indeed Sir.
