Drop for rear only?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make a kit or parts to lower the rear on a 2wd to match or come close to the front. I am not interested in the 2/4 drop as it is too much for my taste.

Not sure about the 2014, but on my 2011 I just removed the factory blocks between the spring and axle. Dropped the rear about 1-1/2 inch which made it just a bit higher than the front.

This. Free and easy.

Look at Belltech 6401. Its a kit with their 2" drop shackles (part no. 6400) and comes with u-bolt spacers so you can remove the block between the leafs and the axle. I got it on amazon for 68 bucks shipped, and plan on installing over thanksgiving weekend. I had the same shackles on my 2006 crew cab 2wd and it worked flawlessly.

Why not just remove the blocks like mentioned below? Also, that kit says through 2013 only. Are the leaf spring setups the same on our trucks?

If you remove the blocks, it will only drop it about 1" My crew cab sits 4" higher in the rear, so adding the 2" drop shackle will have it nearly level. I've heard you can remove the block and you will have enough threads left on the u-bolts to put everything back together but haven't tried it. I think that belltech needs to update their website because customer service informed me that these will work on the 2014s. I also took measurements of the spring width, etc. and the 2013's rear suspension appears identical to the 2014s. I'll keep you posted on how the install goes next week.

Great. Will love to see pictures. This is the only thing I don't like about my truck and $60 is an easy remedy.

Like I said in my post, don't forget about the bump stops. If you do the shackles and the spacer block you will almost be sitting on the bump stops.

MJW930, you're absolutely correct, you will either need to shorten the factory bump stops or find some aftermarket (i.e. djm or daystar) bumpstops that are shorter, otherwise you will bottom out on your bumpstops frequently. I purchased some daystar's but I think the stud is too big for the factory welded in nut, so i'll either have to trim my factory bump stops or drill out a bigger hole in the frame mount.

4" of rake??

I'm thinking it would be more like 3" once the springs settle, but that's still wayyy too much rake!

I agree, there's a ton of rake in the stock suspension but since I bought it to tow I'm hesitant to lower it until I sort out my hitch. Once I see where it sits then I'll decide how much to drop it, if at all.

Yeah I had 2" shackles installed on my 09. Looks great. Only thing I tow is my Harley so no big deal.
