DRL on with Parking Light 99-07

Won't this cause you drl to act as a turn signal as well? Or is that what you are going for to?

It wont. Parking light 3157 is dual filament. My understanding is one acts as signal and one as parking light. Same setup as the brake lights. One filament is tail light and one is brake light

But don't they ( dual filament ) work of different voltage? Like a dimmer switch just adjust voltages to make the light brighter or dimmer. Guess well see when you try this.

 

Any way about this 4 high mod. Does this mean you lo beams and high beams come on at the same time in high beam mode?

Yes. Instead of my low beam shutting off for my high beam, the lows stay on

DRL holder won't take the dual filament socket. It's easy to make it take it though. I think it'll work good for what you want it to do.

Im not using a DRL socket. I am using a parking light socket to replace the DRL socket. I will have pics when I start getting it together.

The housing won't accept it if it's not the DRL one. You could probably jam it in there but it might leak.

 

Maybe I don't understand what you're doing. On mine I modified the DRL base to accept the 3 contact bulb socket. You're wanting to do the same but wire the extra contact to DRL right?

The holes are the same size. The locks are timed in different locations. It will fit. Worst case, I have to put some permatex around it.

 

I will wire up the 3 pin as the 2 pin is for DRL. Then take the leftover 3rd leg and tie in to the parking light hot wire

My LED housings are marked with bulb numbers so you know which socket goes where. DRL is marked 3157KX which is white and the parking is marked 3157NA which is amber. The cutouts look identical. Thats why I got the idea to do it this way

Did you get this working or are you still waiting on parts? I can think of several ways to do this, but they all depend on how you want it to look during the day vs the night.

 

A) You want the DRLs to be amber colored and you want the parking lights to be on when the DRLs are on.

 

B) You want the DRLs to be amber colored, but you only want them on the the parking lights have been turned on.

 

I've thought about doing option B. Basically it would work like the 90s body style trucks. The row of lights under the head lights are dedicated to parking/turn signal.

 

The other thing to consider is whether or not you want the the lights that used to be DRLs to work as a turn signal like the 90s body style, or if you want them to just be dim amber 24/7. The parking lights have dim for parking and bright for turn.

 

If you're still having issues, and you can be more specific about how you want them to operate, I might be able to help ya out. Good luck.

My network coverage is crap and I can't seem to remove a duplicate post from mobile. I also didn't see some of the more recent post in the mobile version. Which I think you discussed some of the questions I asked ^^.

The DRL socket has 2 pins. A and G. Pin A operates the small lower filament. Parking light in the other plug runs Pin B, Signal is Pin A, and G is ground.

 

I have the parts, I am watching the game and will be finishing it at half time. I started during commercial breaks. It will be done hopefully within the hour with pics.

 

DRL will have normal operation, but just Amber in color. At night when parking lights are activated the 2nd filament in the bulb will be activated and use the DRL bulb as another parking light bulb. That bulb will not operate as a signal.
