Spark Plug Wires for Specific Coils

We are reaching out for some assistance on this topic. We sell ignition wires for the GM LS style engines and one issue that we continue to run into is that most listings list 2 types of wires for each truck depending on the type of coil the truck has.

 

An example of this is:

 

if your truck came with the 19005218 style coil pictured below you would use one wire set.

 

 

 

..and if your truck came with the 12558693 style coil you use a different wire set which is below.

 

The issue is that many customers with the 02-07 trucks do not look into the style of coil that they have and they end up ordering the wrong set. Is there a specific engine for each type of coil or an absolute way to know what style it has based upon the body style?

 

For example would the 6.0L engine only use the 12558693 style coil?

I just looked at an 03 2500 6.0 liter,it has the 693 coil

The coils in my 04 1500 6.0 have 693 coils

This was a big topic in the F-body crowd. There is no rhyme or reason as to what plug coil came on what truck. Some got the MELCO(mitsubishi) coils and some got the Delphi coils. The MELCO coils are the square coils with the heatsink on top or whats in your first picture.

 

The Delphi coils are the round coils with no heatsink or whats in your second picture. The only way to be sure about what coil the customer has is to have them confirm if the coil has a heatsink or not.

 

The square MELCO coils with require the longer spark plug wires.

The wires for the square coils are 1.5 inches longer than the ones for the round coils. That is the only difference. If the customer doesn't know-sell him the set for the 693 coils.

Do you know if there are any clearance issues (manifolds, A/C lines, etc) with using the added wire length on trucks that are supposed to have the shorter wires?

nope ,should be ok,1.5 " is nothin ,,,just bows out more

I always sell the longer plug wires. I have the number on a post it note at work taped to my monitor. I don't even ask, thats just what you get.

Bring this one back. I have an 08 5.3L and I have coils stamped 12570616 which would be the square Mitsubishi coils.

 

Does anybody know what the difference is between the round and square coils other than the heat sink? Does one have more perfomance than the other?

 

Does anybody know the OEM part number for the wires for the square Mitsubishi coils?

Just buy the longer ones. And no, one coil is not more "powerful" than the other
