Coolant Leak

Recommended Posts

This is my first time on here and I need some help with my truck. I have a 2000 Chevy K2500 4x4 Quad Cab truck with the 350 5.7L engine. We have had a bad string of luck with this truck lately. The radiator cracked, replaced it, then the engine was leaking coolant from the water pump. We replaced it and found out was bad so just installed another one. Now there is coolant leaking from somewhere, looks like from the water pump mounts to the engine but really cant tell. Put another gasket on it and it still leaks, but when you start the truck up even more water starts coming out but looks like it might be coming from right above the water pump but its vary hard to see around everything. Can it be leaking from somewhere else? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, this is my wife's truck and she absolutely loves it and misses driving it.

Make you own gasket with some gasket maker silicon and let it set for 24 hours after you install it. And I'm sure you know make sure both surfaces are clean of old gaskets prior to new being installed also becarful not to gouge the surfaces.

x2 almost always see "new" gaskets that leak are the result of old material being left behind

If all hoses and connections are in good repair, then I would suspect head gasket issues. Unless the water pump was installed incorrectly, ie. Gasket pinched over, or stripped threads on water pump bolts. There is recommended torque specifications for almost every type of threaded fastener on your vehicle. Check to make sure proper torque has been applied to your water pump bolts. When installing new water pump it is very important to ensure mating surfaces are really clean, dry, and most importantly FLAT and are not damaged (low spots, high spots, or pieces missing from metal surfaces).

5.7 = intake manifold gaskets. An oil analysis will most likely back that statement up.
