Cargo / Dome Light Mod ?

It's possible.. if the BCM is before the switch and not after. First, you'll need wiring diagrams for the row of switches (it's a one piece unit). Then you'll need to locate the cargo light switches input, cut it, and replace it with a constant or keyed power source. Unfortunately, there's no way to really know of this method would work until the service manuals come out. They're scheduled for March 17th release.

GM Upfitter has some wiring diagrams for the 2014's. Google them and you might be able to find what you're looking for.

Thanks MikeNH.. switch it is then. It seemed too easy. I was thinking of trying to see if i can fish from the overhead panel via headliner to the bed light socket. Last one I ran under truck.

Thanks. MotoMedic and Tbarn as well. That might be pushing my comfort level to have a cool factory swiched flashing light. Not that I won't try it eventually, but not at a week old..heh. If I do attempt it I will post it.

If you install independent switches, this might help: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/155775-rap-retained-accessory-power-for-2014-k2-trucks/?hl=%2Bretained+%2Bpower

Thanks. Yeah on my 2010 I used the fuse panel on dash using a fuse I had which has a wire coming out of the top of the fuse on the fused side for the positive. I believe I fused that between the light and fuse as well. Then mounted the rocker in dash on bottom left right below it.

The BCM disables the cargo lamp while the truck is moving unfortunately.

This also means that its as simple as a new update for the BCM if GM deems it worthy. How do you get the ball rolling for such an update.. customer requested BCM update? I don't understand the no light while driving... like when something is tarped and you want to make sure the tarp isn't coming loose... something of that nature.

You won't get it changed. The last trucks were the same way. Pretty sure a white, rear facing light while is against DOT code unless it's a reverse light.

You are correct sir! White are permitted for forward only, except during reversing. Red must face rearward or lateral if on rear of vehicle. Amber/yellow can pretty much go wherever.

I get the law and why it's there but shouldn't the option of turning that light on be left to the person footing the $50k bill and the one to pay the fine when caught. Just one of those things they know best I guess. I could care either way but there have been times I wish I could have turned it on while going down a back road at night to check on cargo.

I can understand the law as well but it seems somewhat foolish that you. are forced to re- add the exact same thing you already have because they disable the functionality and not provide an option to change it. I will have white backup lights for snow plowing and off road use for my boat and camper, now I will just have more holes in the truck and addon equipment. I could understand more on cars, but these are trucks..and more times than not used for some type of work that cars and suv's fall short on. Again, penalized for the small few who would do something stupid like driving with them on all the time.

+1. The removal of the cargo light on/off likely came down to safety. Oblivious truck owners distracting or blinding other drivers.

I'm def not saying I agree with the decision but that's the world we live in. Forget personal responsibility and instead just try to protect everyone from themselves!

heh..I guess I can't say I would not be tempted to give someone the old blind eye when they are riding up my arse or driving behind me with their high beams on.. maybe they know me better than I figured..lol

I mean its against the law and unsafe to run 90mph too but........come on GM I would use this all the time in like 5 second intervals!! It is needed!!
