Sure thing...The GM Borla exhaust (dual tips, side exit) is a high quality kit which installed very easily by the muffler shop I went to. Installed in about 20 minutes once the Corsa was removed and everything lined up nicely. Normally, I would have installed it myself, but with temps over 100 degrees here I decided to watch this time. It is much quieter than the Corsa Sport, but that is what I was expecting based on the review by "REV" and I understand it is a "Touring" sound vs. the "Sport" of the Corsa. While the cold start is throaty, it is not overbearing and with normal driving, it is almost as quiet as stock. However, when I punched it while passing a car on a two lane road (yes, the center line was dotted where I passed), it was very clear that I'm driving a V8! Yesterday, I took my truck out on the toll road at 80+ mph and there was a tone, but not very loud and I could easily maintain a conversation. Absolutely NO DRONE. I do have AFM turned off. I plan to turn it back on just to see what it is like, but have not done that yet. I took several pictures, so I'll load them up in My Gallery for you. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/gallery/album/3494-my-gm-borla-pics/

Here's the part numbers. I found it at Banner Automotive via Amazon.com.

Chuck,

can you give us a review on your new GM Borla exhuast? Did you get the dual side exit or dual behind the bumper?

Yes...see above...

Chuck, thanks for the pics and write up. Are you planning on holding the flapper valve open or letting it open and close on its own.

Planning to leave it alone. This one looks to be better constructed than the stock one and haven't heard from anyone that this one causes issues. Notice the bypass loop? Essentially this one has a loop which keeps it partially open and fully open upon demand. I want to enable AFM just to see how it handles the transition, but I do like running with AFM disabled.

So, I don't have any knowledge about exhaust. If I was wanting to get a nice rumble, not the loud popping sound some exhaust make, what would be the best route that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Something you can hear outside of the truck that sounds nice, and maybe slightly hear inside the truck. I figure I would prob try to run a 1 in 2 out straight out the back under the rear bumper unless I see some pics of a different set up I like.

Rymack10 - sounds like you want the 18" magnaflo. Possibly the 14" but from what I have read and listened to on here the 18 is more subtle and only growls when you get on it. Probably like $100 from summit racing and an hour of shop time at an exhaust shop.

For what it's worth that's the route I'm going just can't decide between 14 or 18.

I've had both on my truck. Started with the 18", but it wasn't loud enough for my taste. 14" is no louder inside the cab than the 18", but definitely louder and more aggressive of a sound outside. 14" was exactly what I was looking for.

Kerrslight - do you have the flapper resonator and third cat? I know I have read your post before but I don't feel like searching at the moment.

I just replaced my Dynomax V/T (which is a 20" case) with a Flowmaster Super 40 (which is a 13" case). Only started it up, haven't drove around yet. I will report back later today. I want to see how it will sound with AFM.

I left the 3rd cat in place, but had flapper and resonator removed.

One other question I have is the tips. I like the redtail that lots of people are running but I found another I like better. It is still a single in dual out tip but it's 18.75" long vs 16" on the one everybody is running. Would it still fit or would it just be a matter of having the exhaust shop bend a new tail section?

Yeah, I think I like the sound of the 14 better. Is that the length of the pipe? How much did it cost for you? Parts, labor and all?

It should fit. Mine was out a little too far at first so I had him cut a little bit off the pipe and it fit perfectly

14" is the length of the chamber. I can't remember part # or price exactly. Look at the info on the YouTube video. I put that information there. From what I can remember it was ~ $80 for muffler and $80-100 to have it installed including the tip I bought

Magnaflow 18" on 2014 sounds a lot different than the 2012 . The short stroke 4.8 Vortec sounded close to the older high revving 327/350 Chevys, the 2014 5.3 DFI seems under no stress at all with a mellow tone. Thinking of replacing 3.5"x18L Slash cut tips with 3" inch tips and adjust the pipes up a little. Gibson 15 deg. cut are the only 18" bolt on tips I could find.

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
