I'm thinking about chopping the stock muffler out and putting in the 12229 magnaflow muffler in its place and keeping everything else in there. The flapper valve should help with the V4 buffeting/helicopter noise and the resonator will abate the resonance AKA "drone". Considering the GMPP Borla system keeps it in place and doesn't suffer from the V4 issues, is telling. Has anyone else tried this combo?

ETA: Has anyone looked inside the stock rear resonator? Is it a straight through unit or is it baffled?

Got my 3.5" MBRP on my truck today finally. The stocker came off nice because everything is so new and not driven lol. I just wiggled the factory exhaust out in one piece and threw it up for sale.... spent more time trying to get the GM 4" tip they just ram over the tailpipe off... Gave up as I will destroy that tip before it actually slides off. Had the new one on in about 20 minutes and took it for a drive. Drone is basically null and it just sounds good when you are on the throttle. Even in V4 I didn't notice really anything worth noting for drone. Needless to say I am happy with it.... until I put headers and no cats thus having straight pipe just like my one other truck... lol.

I found this company about a month ago. Their "R" muffler is probably at the top of my list. If you search on YouTube you will find several videos of both the "R" and "TR" muffler on 2014 - 2015 trucks.

Oh i know its just that this particular setup hit the right note for me. Lol

Decided to just go ahead and order the 38351 Dynomax system rather than hack up the stock exhaust. Figured the cost of a Magnaflow muffler and the labor to install it would put me at half the cost of a complete system.

I just put that same exhaust on my truck. I had the resonator removed and left the flapper in. The truck was extremely quiet that way. Even when I got on the throttle, I could hardly hear the exhaust. I immediately drove to OSH and bought a 2" hose clamp and opened the valve. I am now happy with the sound. I could hear the drone and it really bugged me. I programmed my truck to remove the AFM. Way better!!!!

Got the 38531 Dynomax system and installed it yesterday at work. It was pretty easy to remove the old exhaust. Once unbolted we moved it back far enough to clear the middle cross-member, the pulled it out towards the front of the truck instead of trying to fish it over the rear axle. The new cat-back went on really easy and everything fit perfect. Only thing that was tricky was installing the tip LOL. It takes quite a bit of cinching down of the clamp on the tip to get it tight on the tailpipe, and the first clamp broke at the nut. Luckily it comes with an extra clamp if you have the longer bed so I just used that one and it tightened down fine.

The exhaust sounds great! It's not obnoxious but get your foot in it and it growls! their is a slight "chopper" now in V4 mode at some speeds, but not bad enough to worry about.

I also got the AirAid intake installed this morning and it adds some growl to the setup. Didn't get a chance to really drive aggressive with that yet, but it seems to smoothen things out. I am interested to see how the mileage improves with these two mods. A couple of MPG's would be great!

The chopper sound eventually got to me with the Dynomax, so I said if I'm gonna have a chopper, I'm getting one with a bit more sound. So I just took out the VT muffler and put in a Flowmaster Super 40. Much happier now. I also have the Range AFM disabler, so no chopper unless I pull that out.

I am giong to convert to FFV soon and get a full tune and tune out AFM though.

Yeah the nice thing is that with this system, you can easily put in any performance muffler with a center/offset layout in it's place if you wanna change it up.

It didn't take but a few days for me to get tired of the chopper sound with the dynomax VT while in V4 mode with light throttle. It was also way too quit to be an aftermarket exhaust at idle and low to med throttle. Did sound good at WOT though.

Exactly why I kept it!

I agree with most of this :). I thought it was ok a Med throttle, but WOT all I could hear was air passing, not a thunderous roar ;).

But anyway, for those on the fence about what exhaust to get, consider this:

You can buy this exhaust for $330, and a Magnaflow muffler (for example) for another $100, and end up with a Magnaflow exhaust and save yourself $450, over the $900 Magnaflow system. Don't get me wrong, I REALLY like Magnaflow products, but their price for a cat-back is ridiculous considering you can buy the same thing for almost 1/3 of the price.

    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
