Has anyone installed a Jones Turbine or Aero Turbine on their 5.3? I have an appointment to get one installed next week and I'm wondering if I should have the resonator and or flapper removed. I don't like drone and I do not want it too loud, I just want something a louder than stock.

Well I ordered my Borla XR-1 (15 inch case)! Should be here tomorrow! I might've messed up though, I got the 3.5" in/out... So the exhaust shop might have fun mounting it up. I plan to leave the resonator in place and probably remove the flapper.

Update.

Got my Borla on! I absolutely love the sound. Its a deep sound. Good at startup, nice cruise, no drone, and great under acceleration. Its a bit different under v4 mode, I can definitely tell when it goes into it. Its not annoying, or helicopter sound though. I'm going to give it a week or two and then decide if I throw the valve back on.

5.3 exhaust diameter is 3 inches <- search purposes.

Going with Corsa Sport Cat-Back #14866 - but first have a question ... tried to find this answer but gave up and hope someone knows.

  • Is this exhaust is bolt-on, no weld required?
  • If that is true, what kind of time is involved?
  • And - lowest shipped cost I can find is $1126.79 (autoanything.com) ... anyone see a better deal?

Just put the Corsa 14866 on my truck yesterday. With stock manifolds and converters it is almost too loud. Hope it is not too loud with catted headers. Now there is a bit of rasp under heavy acceleration. The price listed is less than I could find.

It will be quite loud with catted headers. Loud enough that it hurts your ears when you have the windows down and sound reflects off a close building or overpass. Of course it the tone is absolutely amazing though.

Id be interested in a sound video. Also a link to the one you ordered

If you're finding it too loud stock, then you're definitely in for a shock with headers. When I put the Corsa Sport on my truck, I thought it was way too quiet with the factory manifolds and the volume with headers was just right (loud, but what I was looking for).

I'm working on a video, but the part number would be 40085

Agreed. I am thinking about sending the Corsa back and looking at Magnaflow. Looked at the GM/Borla but not really interested in an exhaust with the flapper. Personally, I believe that is a flawed design and a power robbing feature to cover up AFM sound when it goes to V4.

If you want something quieter, it's worth looking at the Corsa Touring muffler. I have the Corsa Touring + Headers on my 6.2L crew cab and it's extremely reasonable. Very little noise, no drone, when cruising around it's quieter than stock. It has a pretty nasty bark when you get on the gas, but overall it's a pretty mild setup. I ended up putting in a cutout to crank it up bit whenever I'm in the mood to wake the neighbours.

I just had my jones turbine 3030xl installed and resonator removed. It sounds awesome but its too windy outside to make a decent video.

I had them leave the flapper in, but I have it held open with a screw currently. They put the flapper after the jones muffler and when its closed it sounds really bad, like an air gushing sound. I tried it on the highway and the drone was bad with the flap held open. I would like to keep the flapper so, I'm taking it back to have them try it in front of the jones muffler to see if that helps.

Edit-

For anyone who cares to listen here's a warm start video.

I'm between the afe exhaust and the dynomax with the built in flapper.

Dynomax is $75 off so it's under $300 for stainless exhaust. I sent afe an email and he said $517 shipped direct. $220 is still $220 and Im a big fan of dynomax's 90 day sound satisfaction or your money back.

I contacted Corsa and was told they do not make a "Touring" muffler. Do you have a part number or could you possibly be thinking of Borla instead of Corsa?

Nope, it's definitely Corsa. From the looks of it they no longer offer the Touring mufflers. It does show up for some of the older trucks on their website:

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
