Extreme cold… (Canadian Eh)

Mine has seen -18F and had no problems starting. The power steering was a little stiff for about 5 minutes but other than that it has performed flawlessly. It is going to get to -24 on Sunday night but my truck will be in my 40 degree garage but it will sit at work all day Monday with a high temp of only -10, the onstar app will come in handy when I need to remote start it after sitting that long in the cold.

I'll find out soon. Going to be -14° here Monday night into Tuesday and not going above -3° on Tuesday.

Seen up to -20 up here in anchorage Alaska. Never had an issue with anything. Truck runs like a champ. Never used the block heater either

It was - 6 this morning. The remote start wouldn't work, nor the OnStar App. It gave me an error that the key was already in the ignition, and that the system won't start. Went outside, to start it by hand, of course the key wasn't in the ignition, but it stated right up....no flapper valve freeze.

Had you plugged your truck in overnight? If so that could be the cause of the problem for not starting the first time.... Let me know.

It was -40F here last night, and even though I have a 2013, it was stiff as yeck but what do you expect ;)

Nope, truck does not have a block heater. It's an issue with the remote start computer. I'm going to keep an eye on it. I had the same issue bringing it back when I stopped in Kansas. I was messing around with the remote start, and never started the truck up by key. I know you can do 2 successive remote starts, but I wonder if you have to hard start it to reset the system?

I have been out lately in -15 F (-26 C) and a windchill at -35 (-37C). It seem sot burn way more fuel. But she warms up pretty quick and works great. It'll be way colder tomorrow and we will see how she does. Im thinking of going ice fishing (I know stoooopid!) tomorrow so she will sit out in the super cold -50F windchill most of the day. We will see how she does.

You can only do 2 remote start cycles before you have to stick the key in abd start car. It doesn't matter if it's back to back or days apart...

That would explain it.

Are your guys trucks getting up to temperature? Mine makes it to the first 1/4 mark after 20 minutes and won't get full temp unless I drive it. Is this normal or is it thermostat time?

How many miles on your truck? I have about 120k and almost 2000 hours.

I haven't had a problem getting up the temperature and it's been well below -30 C. What's surprised me is that the truck don't take that long to heat up and once up to temp - the thing can throw some heat. On top of that, I'm loving the heated steering wheel.

No vehicle is going to get to operating temps after running for 20 minutes in sub zero temps. The best way to get to operating temps is to get it and drive it.

Going ice fishing is never stupid...think of it this way, at those temps, you know the ice is probably safe.

I'm heading to Lake of the Woods next weekend...but it should be warmer by then (e.g. 5F for the high)...too bad, I like it when it's -30 up there.

I'll mention that my dad had his '12 Yukon XL up North at their cabin late last week and they measured -47F and his started up just fine without being plugged in... These trucks can handle it as long as they aren't sitting for days at a time in this stuff.
