How many of you have driven your new 2014's in temperatures of -20c (-4 F) or lower, how does yours work?

My power steering all but completely stops working.

Truck will barely start.

Side windows frost up and will not defrost.

creaks and groans a lot

after 20 minutes of warm up the transmission still has problems shifting.

My 11 year old s10 starts better its running 5w-30 and my 14 is running 0w-30

This sounds like a combination of fixes for the best result. I have had faulty oil pressure readings at -32 celsius and lower, but fixed by changing to 0w30 as specified in owners manual. As for your cold transmission, it is possible to buy a magnetic type plug in heater that you stick to the bottom of the oil pan and plug in. Put that on your transmission pan and try keeping your vehicle plugged in. Also check the owners manual on checking your transmission fluid, the hot check temperature range is quite high, so when its -20 and lower, it will take your transmission longer to come up to temperature. Also try using a proper grill cover to keep the cold air from chilling your engine. If the engine doesn't stay warm, then none of the other components will warm up. You could also consult your gm dealer about the thermostat, in the water system. It's possible the thermostat opens at too low of temperature causing the fluid to be cooled too rapidly. Your engine temp in normal operating conditions should be 100 Celsius. Test your battery, at -20 it should turn over without a hitch, if you keep your block heater plugged in. You have 0w30 so its not like your trying to rotate the crankshaft in concrete.

I've been driving mine with 0 problems and for the last 2 weeks here it's been atleast -35 or colder, most days nearly -50 with the wind chill. I'm way up north in Alberta, but have no issue with mine I just let it warm up and she's good to go

I haven't had any problems with mine either. It's been -30C and below here for the past two weeks and I haven't had any issues. While visiting over Christmas, the truck was parked outside all the time, most nights I didn't plug it in and it started without much fuss. Sure it rode like a brick and the steering was as stiff as hell but it's no different then every other vehicle is at these temperatures. You warm them up a bit to get the fluids flowing and everything is fine. Sure they complain a little on the really cold mornings, but so do the drivers. Spring's only a couple of months away.

The worst I've been through so far is -16F but it has started just fine and the power steering gets a bit stiff but nothing to complain about. A brand new gas engine should start down to -20 or -30 without a hitch.

Mine has only seen -2 and no issues at all, but that is tropical compared to y'all............

No issues except the exhaust flapper valve freezing on me twice.

No driving or staring issues though. This is with Sask temps in the -30c to -40c range.

So far anyways

-40? Glad I visited Saskatoon a couple years back in September. That's cold!

-40, that's just the baseline. With the wind last week we hit -56 one night. But that's just another day of winter paradise. When you drive out of the garage and the truck thermometer starts dropping 5 numbers per change, you know it's cold. Every new truck better start at -20C, the GM block heater on the 5.3 is controlled to not engage above -18C. So even if the truck is plugged in, the block heater won't kick in until that temperatures.

No issues here as well. Saskatoon sk. -30 to -40c with wind chill. Of course gas mileage has suffered but even at 17.5mpg isn't bad at these temps. Starts runs drives a little stiff but who wouldn't be at these temps. Strap yourself to the front of the grill and see how u would feel ! Love the truck so far.

Haha. Yeah we're in a bit of a cold spell around here. The city gave warning that the salt and dirt mixture dont work at tenps that cold so drive very safely.

Quite a few of the ones at work don't start worth a damn...... You have to turn the key on and wait to actually turn it to the start position like with a diesel otherwise it does absolutely nothing. Then the engine starts. Otherwise just the exhaust flappers sticking shut.

The transmission will shift a bit funny cold...... but then the 6L80E shifts like a piece of $hit at the best of times so don't expect much.

No other complaints really from anybody. At least a dozen of them at the location I am at now. All SLE's with 5.3's and 3.42's.
