PaulM Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 So I modded my exhaust. I cut 36" off the end, up in front of the resonator, then cut the muffler out and put a straight pipe in place. Now it honestly sounds bada$$. Only problem is, I get that drone still from V4 to V8, AND right between 1500rpm-1800rpm. My question is, what is the best solution for this? The plug in device to kill AFM? A tune to kill AFM? Or a free flowing exhaust (straight through) such as Borla or Corsa DB and install that muffler? I wonder if extending the exhaust back to the side exit at the stock position would change anything because now it dumps right above the axle under the bed.

My search didnt show a result for this, could you point me too it please?
PaulM Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Going to try this: http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/gm-engine-exhaust-performance-21/exhaust-drone-fix-424169/
tainoxl Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 You can do a j-pipe to cancel resonance or drive in M5 will keep afm from coming on. I am getting the MagnaFlow muffler from my catback replaced with a y pipe, it's just to quiet for me.
Zachlovesfood Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Some people put the flapper valve back on to accommodate for V4... I had it disabled via Diablo Tuner. I installed 3" stainless tubing, a Magnaflow, and dumped it downwards right before the axle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Zachlovesfood Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Forgot to add.... No drone whatsoever. Even with the Kooks headers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

BigBlueLB756 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Here's a couple of Helmholtz closed-end chambers installed in trucks to kill the drone in the 1800-2000 rpm range in top gear. Also works well with 4-cylinder "racket"> Some chamber length calculations for your enjoyment: It doesn't care which brand of muffler it's hooked up to.

Is that just a branched off pipe, closed at the end? Curious to know what all exactly is going on here! Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BigBlueLB756 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 In essence, it's a reflexive chamber, tapped into the tailpipe and capped off at the outer end, that reflects back the offending resonance into the exhaust flow 180 degrees out of phase, effectively cancelling it out. Here's some reference threads for your summer reading: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102075&highlight=drone http://www.g8board.com/forums/116-exhaust-tech/16077-almost-drone-free.html I was BigRed585Lbs in those threads.
