HID Fog Light Problem

Wow! I ran with mine in for about 4 months used them every day for no less than 1 1/2 hrs and never had any sign of burns. I hear people say this happens but that's crazy!

Had them in the head lights and nothing but problems(I've read over all the threads) so I went back to stock bulbs on everything

Do you have a write up on your fog lights? I haven't seen it and just looked at your sig, looks good. I've been wanting to do this...

In his case, it looks like they came loose and then rotated back and up.

The stock housings can handle the 5202 HIDs heat... as long as the bulb stays in the correct position! ha

These are not fog lights, if they were the bulbs would be yellow. They are driving lights, and yes I run mine everytime I drive. They put more light out directly in front of the truck where the stock headlights cutoff cant reach.

They are fog lights. All though yellow light reflects less off of fog most fog lights still don't use them. What determines between the two lights is the light pattern not the color. A fog light has a flat close beam of light directly in front of the vehicle, just like you noted. They are designed not to shine far so you get less reflection from the fog. A driving light has a stronger, narrow, straight beam that shines in front of the vehicle. They are designed to help provide additional light similar to a head light would. Normally if you want a true driving light you have to buy it aftermarket because most manufacturers just provide fog lights. GM even lists these as "fog lamps".

My biggest quirk is that GM program the BCM now where you have to turn them on after every start up, every other manufacture keeps them on/off based on last setting. My wifes MKX stays on, buddies Ram stays on. Only GM forces you to turn them on each time. Stupid.....

I've recently bought a hid kit from ddm tuning was happy to install and it looked great. Until I had smelled something a lil funny to come to find the bulb burning through the fog light housing..when I installed them they were on the tabs correctly I guess I hit a bump and it popped out...any of you have any suggestions to where I can get a new housing and how much..thanks

I pulled my stock lights off, send me your address and I will mail you mine.

agree!!!!! I didn't the resistor on my old trucks can't with the new ones...The relays are different......

This was a problem I went over a while ago when I got my fog light HID's. It seems some people don't have issues with them but others do, myself being one of them. I noticed burn marks the second time I turned them on and haven't used them since. My burn marks are very minor compared to what happened to your housing and I'm sorry to hear about that. My advice to you, if you still want to have HID's, is to get a pair from HIDGUY. They are expensive but as far as I know they are the only ones with 25w HID's available. Halogen's run at 25w which is the perfect temperature for these HID's. I have purchased from them before, this kit specifically, and a few other HID accessories. The one time I bought the kit I had a defective bulb that was a different color than the other, I never got it replaced. I'm not sure if their customer service has improved, but they are still in business so take this info with a grain of salt. I have yet to get another kit for my 2014 but I plan to as I want HID's and wont take LED's simply because of the insufficient light output.

I ordered and received the 25W fogs from HIDguy, and there has been no sign of the housing burning.

I've seen people still have problems with the 25watt from HID guy and say they aren't real 25 watt HID kits. Oracle has a 24 watt kit that is proven to burn 30 degrees cooler then the 35 watt kit. Kinda pricey though.

Here is what my new 2014 Silverado Fogs look like after HID Bulb tab failure (R/H side). Looking to get a better setup. NO Plastic if I can help it. Truck only has 2600 miles on it. Go figure.
