USB question

So does anyone else use a USB thumb drive with music on it?

I have one and have used it a couple of times. So last night I had it playing, got home and turned the truck off. Then this morning when I turned the truck on it said the device was not available. I tried the other under console opening and still no go. So I moved it to the dash ports and it worked, but now the system would only play one song until I went in thru the info system and took it off artist and put it on songs.

So them I stopped for gas, got back in truck and same thing. Now the dash ports quit working but if I moved the drive to the console port it work but I had to take it off of artist (default I guess) and move it to songs in order to play all of the songs.

Anyone else having issues like this when using a USB drive?

I originally had issues with mine as well then read up on it and they recommend you format the USB drive first before adding songs, etc... I did that and everything worked great.. It also plays videos off your usb drive but only while in park, once you put into drive it stops.. I have all the songs off my computer on it and love the endless possibilities... enjoy...

I'm glad this thread came up! My truck is on the train headed this way so I haven't used a USB port yet. But, I'd like to put my rather large music library on a flash drive or SD card. I asked questions on the forum some time ago but never got an answer.

I use iTunes on my computer because I have an iPhone, iPad mini, & MacBook. I can't figure out how to get the library copied to the flash drive.

I hope someone here can give good instructions because I'm sure there are others who would like to know.

I copy the songs I want to a folder. These are in mp4 version (USB won't play). I then use a converter software (free online) and convert the files from mp4 to mp3. I then save to the thumb drive. Not a bad process doesn't take to long but will if you have a lot of music to start with

You mentioned that it plays videos off of usb? That's cool! I just don't like the fact that you can't play a DVD in park on the main screen. I would have figured that it would be able to do this with all of the technology it seems to have.

This drive was in my previous truck 2010 Sierra and played flawlessly for a year with no issues. now that it is in the 2014 I am having issues, just weird. I really don't know what formatting the drive is going to do to help as this drive has only been used in a vehicle for this reason.

I use this extensively. I have a 64gig usb key with 60 gigs worth of music on it. Works awesome. Album art is displayed and everything.

I've run into this issue also - If you unplug the thumb drive and plug it back in, eventually it recognizes it again.

I just copied and dragged all my music to a blank 32gb thumb drive (about 30 gb worth of music). I didn't do anything special to format it. Maybe that's why it has trouble reading it sometimes (??) I assume if I just put the USB into my computer and say format it will erase all of the music and once it's formated I can reload it? (That's a question LOL).

try a SD card if all fails. I have everything on the SD card.. always works great.

I started to use an SD card because I have a 64GB one. But it was SOOOOOO slow copying the music that I just gave up and got selective with what I put on a 32GB thumb drive. (Don't want to go out and buy a bigger one until Best Buy puts them on sale).

Has anyone copied their music from an iTunes library? That's what I can't figure out how to do. I would appreciate any help.

Yes but first I used iTunes and converted everything to mp3. I actually did that a few years ago to all of my library, and then I set up iTunes to import all CDs in mp3 format from now on.

You'll end up with two of each song - one in mp3 format and the other in whatever it is that iTunes uses (i forgot). Then you have to delete all the ones you don't want. It's really kind of a PITA and a time consuming process, but it works.

Once you get your music converted, just go to Windows Explorer (or file manager, or whatever) and copy and paste to the USB drive.

in Itunes click on the songs you want then right click and copy. Paste them to a folder on your desktop. Then like I stated above you will need to convert them to an MP3 format

That actually sounds easier to do. I wanted all of my iTunes music in mp3 format (to be recognized by other devices), so I did it in iTunes.

My USB has not worked since day one. I have the 1WT work truck package and only have the USB ports in the center console. My USB stick that worked fine in my Tundra I traded in is a no-go and even tried a new stick formatted (FAT 32) with no good results. SD works fine and the USB ports do power and charge my cell phone.

My salesman did a follow up call and I told him that was my only issue and would address it the next time it would be in for scheduled service ( but will probably be sooner with the current recall ).

Considering all the other stuff people are having with vibrations and other issues, I count myself luck so far.
