6.2L is a superior engine to the 5.3L. I've owned both including the L92 and L86. The additional horse power and torque make a whole world of difference. The downside though is that the gas mileage will suffer compared to the smaller engines like the 5.3L.

From what I asked around and from what I read it wasn't worth the additional weight and gas consumption. Too big of an engine for the 1500. And no point getting it in the 2500 because the diesel is offered

Too big and too heavy? I'm not really following that logic at all. The increase in performance from the 6.2L is a night and day differnece compared to the 5.3L. Yes it may not be the most economical choice but at the end of a day its a truck. It's nice to have the additonal power when you have truck loaded up with people, gear and toys. Not mention if you tow why would you not want the additonal horsepower, torque and larger rear end?

I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. I had a 2008 Silverado 5.3, a 2012 Silverado 6.2, a 2015 Sierra 5.3, and now a 2015 Sierra 6.2, so basically 1 of each engine on both old and new engines. The 6.2 is worlds better on both the old and new platform.

I just assumed bigger engine more needed so it's heavier. Biggest engine less romantic under the hood. More heat harder to dissipate

I have the 5.3 with 3.42 rear end I have no trouble towing my 6klb boat or my buddies car on a car hauler can't be more than 5-6k milage is not great but it's a gas I only tow occasionally. Anytime you want to tow enough you need the 6.2 why not opt for the diesel and get good fuel millage and ability to tow 20k lbs

The physical size of both engines is exactly the same at 25.2" wide x 32.2" tall. What creates the larger displacement size is the bore. The bore of the L83 is 96.01mm where as the L86 is 103.25mm. Also, between the 5.3L crew cab/short box with max tow and 6.2L crew cab/short box with max tow the weight difference is 185lbs. For comparison the same configurations but with the standard bed (6'6") the weight difference is only 174lbs. I choose this configuration because both trucks will have the exact same drivetrain including the larger rear-end and 3.73 gears. In reality I have absolutely no clue what the difference in weight is between just the two engines but between the two trucks it's a very small difference of about 3%. Check out the two links below about each engine, it shows the materials used in the engine, horsepower & torque ratings, engine rpms and so on.

You need to have adobe acrobat installed. For example if you use Google Chrome there is an adobe acrobat extension that will open the file in a new tab for quick viewing. Then you can save the files and/or print them. If that doesn't work just google search "L83 gmpowertrain" and "L86 gmpowertrain". And you will come across the links that link to a pdf on the first page of the google search. The L86 has more forged internals too which is nice.

Had my Bilstein 5100's installed on the front of my truck this morning. Went with the highest setting and the ride is still way more improved over stock. Stock shocks felt like there was some jarring over sharp bumps. The Bilsteins really smoothed that feeling out.

Nope. It's come with chrome grill and chrome headlight bezel. But I'm gonna change them out once it gets here.

    • One of the few things I enjoyed about my time in the midwest was taking off on weekend drives. Unlike home, where we are boxed in by mountains and water, those rules don't apply to the inland plains. Roads connect and sprawl everywhere. While Minnesota is flat, it's not completely featureless and there are fast moving rural roads with curves and slight elevation changes. I used to relish heading out in a particular direction with no set destination, no curfew, and weaving through little townships, wherever the roads would take me. Along farms, lakes, or through the deciduous trees... It was beautiful in its own way, and the seasons were so distinct there. Fall drives yielded amazing shows of color and contrast. Summer drives rewarded with the and amber evening glow of the prairie (and lots of juicy bugs).    I do a lot of that here in my home state too. But it's much less mysterious/intriguing. I've traveled most roads in the region, and every road that's fun to drive within a good radius of my house. But every drive, even on the same old roads, is still enjoyable. I know where I can lean hard into the throttle or really throw the car into a curve. There are exercise loops for when I just need to keep certain cars limber, and much longer routes to settle in and enjoy a drive and put some miles on. All the mountains and water make for some really awesome roads for spirited driving. But not all my driving is spirited, for example, that's not really enjoyable in my pickup or this Blazer (that's still here...).   Sometimes a good drive is followed by a ritualistic wash before tucking the car away...
    • 'GMAuthority' is reporting the 2027 HD's will have the L8S 6.6L gasoline V-8.  There was some talk here about the L8S awhile back.  Not sure what changes it will have now as it seems the 2027 emissions regulations have changed from what was originally proposed.  The big question will be is L8S just a stopgap for the last 2 years of the current T1 HD platform or will it carry forward to the next generation 2029 T1-2 HD's?    I assume the L8S will still be a Gen. V engine. 
    • New engines will still be using DEF. You just won't have the limp modes occurring when you run out of DEF now.
    • I am not a NOCO fan for a charger I would leave on a battery 24/7. The reason is, it doesn't really float. It waits until the battery drops to a certain voltage and then charges it back up to 14V. It's better than no charger I guess.
    • I would never do anything but lithium.   If the vehicle is stored, just turn the disconnect off. My batteries are completely disconnected form everything in the trailer when my disconnect is off. Trailers don't always come that way as some still keep the CO/LPG monitor on. When mine is off...it is off.   As far as storage temps, LiFePO4 are good down to -20°C. I would store them in a heated place if it goes below that. You can also get heating mats with a thermostat if power is available.   The way the heaters work, if it's below 0°C, if a charge comes in, it is directed entirely to the heater until the battery gets above 0°C and then it allows the charge to go to the battery.   For my Android tablet I use as a display, I can move it inside my house if I was ever in an area that got super cold.
