I guess your only mistake was shutting it off immediately and being responsible. If mine shows no oil pressure I'll just run it 'til it seizes up and they'll have to replace the engine.

good thought but remember the computer tracks everything and Chevy could fight it proving how long it ran after "no oil pressure" came up on the message center.

Bingo! There's your answer. We had a brand new Corvette in this month. 22 miles. Spun a rod bearing. No new motor. Just repair it! It was only $70k though. Broke on a test drive and the customer still bought it. Go figure.

Popa Joe - any update on this? I had the same thing happen to me last week, with more miles (35,000). They have replaced the oil pump and flushed the engine, supposed to be getting back today

what if you had your truck running with remote start and this happened , would it shut the truck down

They won't start by remote with a CEL.

I'd bet that it would also shutdown if CEL occurs when running without key in the ignition.

Does anyone have link to a GM's recommended way to replace an oil pump? I have similar truck. 1500 WT, k15903, 4wd. I had a mechanic failed to put the job back together correctly and I have to take to small claims. I had a bad oil leak, bolts missing, some loose and did not use the correct seals. I like to have it to go thru and show the judge. I have pics from new mechanic but do not know what he is showing. I have more pics, but can only up load a certain size file.

The procedure will be in the full-service manual for the truck, at a site like alldatadiy.com.  Both your mechanics will likely have access to the procedure as well (maybe not at that particular site, but one targeted at mechanics).
