Z60 Suspension

Just checked my build sheet. I have a 2014 LTZ with the Z60 suspension and Z82 trailering package with 20" wheels. Rode smooth on highway, but bounced a lot on bumps or railroad tracks. Changed shocks to Bilstein 5100s front and rear. Handles much better ( more controlled, less bounce )!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I also have the Z60 and I'm looking to lessen the jounce when riding over pavement imperfections.

When you replaced your Z60 shocks, did you notice if the 5100's changed the stance or ride height at all? Since the Z60 ride height is lower than the Z71 or Z85 packages, I'm trying to determine if putting the Bilsteins on, even when set at the "0" lift setting, will increase the ride height compared to the Z60. I want to keep the stock height on mine.

No, it did not change the ride height at all. My truck is still at stock height.

Tiger,

For what it's worth I have the z60 suspension package with the 20" wheels which I believe you have as well. This weekend I installed Bilstein 5100's on the rear. It handles large bumps better without as much recourse but it is definitely stiffer and some of the cracks that my truck would float over before are a little jarring now. I might be putting the stock shocks back on. I will ride with the 5100's for a while and get a feel, but initial impression is it was more cushy and rode better with the stock shocks.

I think you need to install the fronts as well to get a fair opinion on them.

Well, that doesn't sound very encouraging. I'd be interested to hear your updates after putting a few more miles on them. And please feel free to add 5100's to the front as WendysOrBust suggested for a more complete evaluation :D

Haha, yeah, the fronts are going to be stiffer as well. I had the fronts on my last truck and they rode quite a bit better than stock. I'm not saying the ride is bad by any means, much more controlled, just not as cushy if you know what I mean.

Just checking here in this thread and it raises a question for me. I see on my glovebox sticker that I have Z60 and Z82. If I understand correctly, Z60 should have come with 20" wheels. My truck has 18" wheels. Is there a code on the glove box that would show 20" wheels and what would that be? Z82 is just trailer package.

Z60 can come with either. Z82 is just the hotch being installed. I dont know the code for 20's on a silverado. The wheels on a Sierra SLT with a 20" is NZM. That is with the chrome "snowflake" 20's

I think I just found my answer on this page. I googled "Silverado 20" wheel RPO code" and this came up. My code list shows RD4 and that is the wheel that should be on my truck. I may have to talk with the dealer on this one. It was bought as a used truck but I would like those wheels on the truck.

If it was used, you get what you get

I know you are right Chris. I just want to raise a little stink with them for GP. I assume the owner drove the truck in and traded wheels and that is what they put on it because they are brand new wheels. There is zero damage to them but several scratches and dents on the truck. So these wheels were not on the truck when it came it. I wasn't there for the trade but.....

My 2014 Silverado LTZ shows... "RD2 - WHEELS, 20" CHROME (REPLACES STD/OPT WHEELS) RUF - WHEEL, 17" STEEL SPARE "

I'm looking at a 2WD Sierra SLE and it has the Z60 sticker. The window sticker doesn't list any options other than the normal SLE. Is it possible the dealer just added the sticker to the stock truck?

    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
    • Yes, the key seems to be with the half tons that if it has the Z71, then it definitely has the two speed. What got me was that the two speed AND the lower geared towing package option could not be chosen together the last few years unless it was mated up to the 6.2. Want the 3.0 duramax and 3.73 tow gears ... nope, can't get the two speed transfer case ( neighbor son realized that after he had bought his used 3.0 half ton .. where the frick is the low range ? ! ).    I am still unsure which truck series, the half ton or the HD truck that the original poster is referring to for sure other than yes his question is in the HD section of this forum but that doesn't guarantee the question got asked in the right section.
