Transport Time?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, I found it after placing my order for a '14. I've been following along for the past few months using the forum as therapy while I wait for my new Sierra.

GM says my Truck shipped from Ft. Wayne on 2/22, does anyone have experience or insight into about how long it might take to get over the to the east coast, and eventually to the dealer? Dealer tells me the Dist Center is in East Brookfield MA....

BTW, the truck is an Iridium Met. 1500 Sierra SLT, Double Cab, All-Terrain (painted bumper variety) w/5.3L. ----I can't wait to be driving it!----

I wish it were that easy! I can do math too :)

Just wondering what others who have ordered trucks that came from Ft Wayne experienced for delivery times (shipped from factory to dealer arrival).

Thanks 2014GMC, I'm optimistic it'll be ready to go by the end of next week, trying not to get my hopes up too much tho.

Congrats! I had heard the double cab models were built in 'Tucky. I got one on order myself and should be built next week. I sure wish I could sneak up to KY and see the assembly.

I think i'm wrong.... Fort Wayne is Indiana. I had heard Kentucky but after looking at the VIN decoder there is no KY. So was I correct about the single and double cabs being built here in the states.. Fort Wayne??

Yep. Fort Wayne Assembly is in Indiana, driven by it tons of times going to Indianapolis for work. They build regular and double cab 1500s.

Sooperdave,

From what cust. svc told me on chat, my truck was assembled at Ft. Wayne, I didn't get the VIN to verify though.

My TPW was 2/17, dealer called me in the afternoon on 2/19 and said the status was updated and it was completed that morning. Hopefully yours moves right along as well. Tracking it once it's shipped seems to be a crapshoot though. GM chat cant seem to tell me anything other than that it shipped.... I feel like if UPS can tell me exactly where my package is then GM should be able to (to some degree) also, but what do I know....

Cool! Thx for confirming that info.

Yeah, TPW on mine is 3/3 so hopefully one day next week it is indeed built. The GM rep on here Andraya has been very helpful at keeping me updated. I agree though. Tracking should be easier. Here is my idea of tracking a vehicle order: Build a dang website that can interact with the assembly process. It can be very simple informative. Obviously not giving out secrets of the plant, but for someone who has an order in for a vehicle the basic info. And what would really be cool is to have an animated segment of when it's actually being built. ie.. adding doors, mating chassis to cab, adding drivetrain... so on and so on. With technology today there is no reason this info should cost a manufacture very much to build a site and run it. I guess we can be thankful we are provided with status of orders period, but I prefer to do things myself and not rely on people to provide.

I agree I can track a $5 order through UPS online but not a $40,000+ order? My TPW is also 3/3 and I live in IL so i should get mine quick i will update when my truck ships and gets to the dealership.

They may of been thinking of the corvette plant in Bowling Green, KY.

I don't think any of the automakers (aside maybe from high-line stuff) offer detailed tracking. Rail and truck transport just isn't set up for that. It is horrible to wait though- when I had the Tacoma I didn't order it but it was a stock order than was in transit so for a few weeks every time I passed a car hauler I scanned it for a blue crew cab Tacoma. When I go for a new truck next year I will likely have to order it since this time I'm pretty sure it will be tough to stumble across one with exactly what I want like I did in 2011 (other than color there is nothing I'm willing to compromise on option wise, never have and never will) so if I stick with GM it will come from Fort Wayne since I don't want a crew cab. I would hope transit time is fast since I'm only like 120-130 miles from the plant but who knows how transport works. If I were able to get over how ugly the 2015 F150 looks like it'll be or (gasp!) went with a Ram, it'd be even closer. Really hope prices stay low on the GM trucks though but even a regular cab with the 5.3 and Z71 and a few other goodies has a MSRP of like $40k.

My truck's status has been updated by GM. They tell me the truck arrived at the VDC on 3/2, so in total, it took 9 days to get from Ft. Wayne to MA.

Now if I could just get an update from the dealer! They tell me that they have the ability to expedite from here out... I'm still hoping I can pick it up before the end of the week.

Today makes 9 weeks from the order date.

So if I understand correctly your truck was built on the Feb 19th, shipped on the Feb 22nd, and arrived at the port on Mar 2nd?
