Apple iOS CarPlay

I just got a 2016 LT. The way I've accessing Siri is through the "hey Siri" command and my iPhone 6plus. Yup don't have to push a button, just say hey Siri and tell it what you want to do. iPhone 6 only supports this while plugged in, but works fine because CarPlay requires being hooked up via usb.

Hope that helps.

Does your steering wheel "talk" button work for calling up Siri? I just did this upgrade through MVI and While CarPlay is running and phone plugged in, when I hold down the "talk" button it doesn't call up Siri. It gives me some error about no phone connected or something.

This button only works for me through Bluetooth when I don't have the cable plugged in or have CarPlay running.

According to Chevy's FAQ's on CarPlay the steering controls work for calling Siri. Maybe it's just a byproduct from upgrading my 15. Not a deal breaker but a little annoying.

My '16 GM car with carplay does activate SIRI if you hold down the 'talk' button when plugged in, same as through bluetooth.

I have been looking into a carplay only update for my '15 silverado with the IO5 8" mylink for a while. I dont care for the GM NAV, or the 12-1500.00 price tag to add that and carplay. 700.00 I might do just for carplay (and android auto if thats available shortly) though if it all works OK. I have read in another GM forum that if you dont change the USB connector then you lose some carplay functionality, but they werent clear what exactly.

Confirmed that my behavior is like yours. Voice command button on steering wheel will not work for Siri. Since mine is a an iPhone 6S saying "hey Siri" does the job though. Holding the on-screen Home button also works.

Still, I agree with you that this is an annoyance.

The other thing I learned after install was that the pause live radio feature was lost. One cool feature is that I got a new radio ID for XM that has never been registered. Not sure how long I can ride the free XM but they have them working in the cars on the lot for test drives for as long as they sit there. The dealer activation is what kicks them into 3-month trial mode.

Carplay will not work through your existing 2015 dual-USB port in the console. It WILL work from the in-glovebox one though. I learned this after switching out my dual-USB port but I would probably switch it anyway since the console one is way more convenient to reach.

Thanks for the post! I really want car play, couple questions...

So it won't work by Bluetooth? U must connect USB?

My steering wheel button currently accesses sri if I hold it down long enough. Just tapping it brings up the default commands.

Thx!

Must connect by cable for both Carplay and Android Auto.

On our 16 SLT, we've run both using the USB's in the centre console. Haven't tried the ones under the radio.

2016 - I was able to use any of the USBs in the veh for Carplay. I can also access Siri via the talk button on steering wheel.

GM Navigation is nice. And, that price tag is a little off. You can get the GM OEM radio for $675 with Car Play.

Siri will work via bluetooth. Long press on the steering wheel, will bring up siri, and you can give her commands to play songs, read texts, etc, and it will work.

Carplay doesn't work without being plugged in via usb, the difference between bluetooth siri and usb carplay is that you get onscreen visuals, apple maps, etc..
