How does GM figure out the mileage on the different trucks?

The engines on the regular, double and crew cabs are rated for the same gas mileage. The three trucks are a different weight class and the difference from 3 to 5 passengers. If weight is a factor in gas mileage, how can GM rate the engines all the same? If they all get the same gas mileage, it would pay to get a crew cab. Why isnt there a difference stated?

Are the licenses more money (weight difference) than a regular pickup etc.?

From my experience it seems that they find out the actual MPG on each vehicle.

Then they multiply it by 1.5 and put it on the sticker.

For instance a truck that is listed at 21mpg highway actually gets 14mpg.

As well they adjust the instruments and milage gauges so that they show a higher mpg to give you the impression that you are getting close to the stated mpg.

Now if you go online and look up how it is done, they test a sample vehicle under controlled conditions. I think I read recently that they only need to test one of a same and they no longer test drive it. They put it in a lab setting for testing. The way they do it changed just a few short years back. But then I think this is just propaganda to make us feel like the government is actually making progress to improve the enviroment.

They follow EPA standards. Nothing like actual driving habits. That is why they are so far off.

Are you saying that is done according to government guidelines and regulations established by politicians?

It has to be accurate then, our government would never put out information or data that would mislead us.

Jesus, did you just come out of your bomb shelter or something?

No, just put gas in the Z71 though. I am very sure I didn't get 20+ mpg since the last fill up.

There is a difference between city and hwy driving and their respectable MPG. I just did a 400 mile trip and got 20 mpg in my 5.3. cruise set on 70 mph. But around town I'll get 15-16 from stop and go.

You cant expect ANY vehicle to get the hwy stated mpg in around town driving.

I have made a dozen trips with the cruise set on 75 the last two months. Nice smooth straight road about 300 miles round trip.

In my 6.2 High Country and I am getting about 14, less than the City estimate.

Took the truck in for warranty work, pointed out that the mpg gas gauge is incorrect by 1.5 mpg. They said that it isn't an exact science. That it is only accurate to 1 mpg ( I wonder which way that accuracy goes?) and that they can not adjust it. The mpg gauges say I am getting 15.5 to 16.

I got better milage out of the trucks I had 15 years ago than the ones today. My 2000 Z71 averaged 21 mpg highway. My 2008 averaged 15. My 92' averaged over 20. Actual MPG has went the opposite direction of what the stickers say in the last 10 years.

They take the highest of Ford or Dodge +1

Well, I simply don't believe this.

Of course you don't, and your mpg gauges are accurate. Pickups get better mileage today than they did 15 years ago. Your health care is going to be affordable and Sadam was trying to buy uranium.

I guess it comes to fuzzy math. I can't see why three different trucks (regular, double and crew) with different weight class can get the same mileage. I just don't get it. I would assume something that is lighter would do better. Why is the new Ford truck going to aluminum (loss of 700 pounds) for gas mileage?

I've always get better mileage out of a GM truck second best out of a ford, way worse out of a dodge. I had a few for my company. That would be gas, diesel different. I usually get within a mile advertised on the sticker. Better gas mileage on the new one than older models. Technology does improve over time, more gears in the tranny, more efficient engines, equals better gas mileage.

I don't see how you all with the 6.2's are getting such bad mileage. I hand calculate mine at fill up, yes the DIC is off by 1mpg as it gets its number based off of the fuel flow rate from the injector cycles. So far my city mileage is 16-17mpg, I have seen as good as 21mpg on the highway on some trips. 19mpg at worst on the highway so far.

I get on it at times, but for the most part drive it pretty normal. Being 40 with a CDL I try to keep a low profile when driving.
