Exhaust Headers

First of all, has anyone put some in on their 14 yet? I'm contemplating do this myself, along with true duals all the way out. My question also, is there a difference in the 5.3 block from previous years and this years 5.3 block? Reason I ask is because if they're the same externally then headers from previous fitted years would fit ours since I can't find any.

Thanks for the input folks!

I would wait until there are headers specifically available for the 2014 trucks. Even if they did bolt up to the engine the same as previous years (i'm not sure on the exhaust bolt pattern), the piping routing may be different around the transmission, cross members, etc, and there could be a high chance they won't fit. I know that on my 2009 and my 2010 that the piping for the headers had some tight spots and I wouldn't want to risk wasting money on parts that were definitely for a different generation/chassis of the vehicle.

Edit: American Racing already has headers available for 2014 trucks:

I don't think anything from the prev generation motor will fit on this one, it was/is a brand new clean sheet designed motor.

They claim 30 HP and 30 TQ increase which sounds about right. The factory cats/y-pipe set up is very restrictive. Guys wanting to go with the "loud" cat back exhausts will probably want something quieter once they do headers with the baby cats or no cats at all(don't recommend). I have just an 18" magnaflow on my Trailblazer SS with the factory resonator in place with long tube headers and baby cats.....my truck is loud. Maybe I'm just getting old or tired of hearing my neighbors complain every time I start my truck....lol.

I would most likely go with the 1 7/8" with cats into a nice quiet Magnaflow cat back with resonator......that sound would be nice, not too loud but just enough bark when you get on it. Not to mention the extra 40 or so HP you get.

Agreed. There is exhaust loud, and then there is LT headers loud. My 2009 was quite loud with my headers and just the factory catback. I actually quieted it down with the Corsa Touring so that it wouldn't drone on the highway.

I used to run a partially open cutout and had to close it up in the winter when I was often remote starting my truck in the morning. Neighbours were NOT impressed.

I can understand about the neighbors not being happy. Mine hate when I start my 85 camaro at 7 to go to work or when I come home from work at the bar on the weekends. It has the longtubes and duals with no cats and flow master 40s. I wonder if anyone has put those headers on and has a video in the cab? Just wondering what the V4 mode will sound like

Headers @ good exhaust is at the top of my list. As soon as they start coming out and have some reviews to go off of, then mine will be in the mail.

I am also looking forward to some good vids, write ups of installs that aren't a nightmare. I loved putting big tubes on F-bodies... Loved it!

These heads are waaaaay different man I wouldnt suggest trying the gmt900 headers on these!! Im pretty sure the intake and exhaust valve locations were swapped and this will prolly have an effect on headers bolting up Im sure. That is if Im correct on this!

Sorry for being a broken record on the warranty subject, but a catback is one thing, but surely headers would void the warranty on the engine, right?

Only if it can proven. Magnusson-Moss warranty act

Yeah but whos going to bring GM to court when they deny your warranty? I mean, there was someone on here saying there was a guy with a new 6.2 14 and he had a tune and blew the engine and now is stuck with the tab.. So did they prove the tune blew the motor or did they just think it was a possibility and deny warranty until someone makes them do otherwise in court?

Obviously we can't live our lives thinking what if, but has anyone had headers and had engine work done under warranty? I remember reading on here another guy with an engine problem and he put a CAI on and new wheels/tires and the service writer told him to put the intake AND wheels/tires back on to look stock for when GM came to inspect it.. That's what worries me..

I have dealers and paralegals in the family

Not likely. It would be pretty hard for something in the exhaust to cause the engine to break. Even harder for GM to prove it. Same for a CAI.

The tune is a whole different story. That's like messing with the brain of the motor - any number of things could cause the engine to implode. GM would have no problem voiding your warranty then.

The dealers don't care about headers. You will no longer have an exhaust/emissions warranty as they won't warranty the parts that didn't come with the vehicle, but the headers won't effect the engine.

Heck, I've had to have the dealership take my headers apart for warranty work on my transmission and they didn't even blink an eye. Undid everyone, replaced the torque converter, threw it back together, no issues.

The computer tune is another story as dealerships love to raise crap over programming modifications, but if you're worried, just run the headers without a tune. I ran my 2009 like that for roughly a year as I was simply too busy to take it in for a dyno tune. You'll run into an occasional check engine light due to the O2/cat efficiency that will prevent your remote start from working, but quickly clearing the code with a scan gauge will keep things running smoothly.

Well I work in the shop at the dealership so some smaller stuff I can possibly pull off if need be. But honestly I'm not gonna be doing anything extreme or insane.
