I have checked everything to the junction block at the back of the truck.I have power to the block and the terminals show hot but no power to the lights. Where do I look next? Or could the junction block be bad?

Is it possible for the taillight combination junction block to go bad and lose common ground?

Just for your information, you might already know this, but I found it out curiously one day when I was younger. The brake lights/headlights/and taillights and running lights are on different fuse circuits. (taillights and running lights being on the same circuit). So, theoretically you could have power to the power block in the rear for your tail lights/license lights but not your brake lights. Have you taken this into account? Did you confirm that the area of the block that "had" power didn't have power when the brake pedal was released? All of this is armchair theorizing by me.

Circuit needs three things to work, lose any one of them and no lights. You need power, you need a bulb with continuity between to two connections(continuity is not 0 ohm for resistance), and lastly you need a ground.

 

I do not understand what you mean when you say checked for "taillight combination junction block".

 

Start from basics. Check all fuses, in both fuse boxes. If you have power there (both sides of fuse), then check connection at brake pedal switch for power, and check for power out with pedal depressed. Something to note here, on my 2010 the brake lights do not work with truck shut off. Used to be brake lights worked regardless of key position. No idea why they dropped that.

 

Go to the next connection, and verify power on both sides. Continue moving down the line till you get to tail lights. After the bulb it becomes a ground that needs to be checked. You will want to verify all connections are good inside the lens as well.

 

Do the signals work at the back? Does your truck have combination brake and signal bulb being one and the same? What about the third brake light? It is not on the same section of wiring the rear lights are on. If it also does not work, then you have brake light switch is broke or a fuse blown.

Combination jjunction block is at the rear of the truck on the drivers side. It proved to be bad. Still hasn't fixed the problem. Fuses new,lamps new. The brake light switch tested OK. The only thing I can think of is the turn signal switch. Who's the bonehead that thought of running the brake lights through the turn signal switch. Does anyone have any suggestions? Other than float testing this truck in a deep lake? Has me so frustrated,I'm thinking of getting a ford.

Doesn't matter what brand you get, most use signal and brake on same bulb. If you watch the Barrett-Jackson auctions you will see cars sell for half a million and have one brake light out. Light is not out, idiot driver has put the signal on. Signal on-key off will cause the light on the side that is supposed to be signalling to not be lit when brakes applied.

Are you sure they still route brake light through the signal switch? I would have thought they would have stopped that years ago. They can get the truck to start up with a button from a quarter mile away, and they cannot figure out how to simulate a diode in a circuit?
