I'm curious about this because I've looked it up and have gotten mixed answers, second reason I found a chevy silverado 1500 1999 and the ad says it has 3 doors... This is at a dealer as well

Thanks

Wikipedia also says 3-door for the first year. No firsthand experience though.

Right around Jan/Feb of 2000 is when they started with the 4-door ext. cabs......so early build 2000's,and all '99's are 3-doors,as well as any of the older GMT400 trucks are 3-doors also.

Hmm we'll tbat sucks. I found a nice 99 but it's the 3 door and it seems like only getting on on passenger side would get old quick

Jan-March of 2000. I ordered my truck in February as a 4 door ext cab and it was built in March.

Didn't realize they were the last to add the fourth door. I remember as a kid having to get into extended cabs without the doors, how things have changed. Haha

Only downfall of the ext cab with the 3/4 doors, is the rears are suicide doors, so getting in/out of the back in tight spots is a little tricky. Other than that, works slick.

I have 3 doors and would not like this config again. Search more and get 4 doors for way better access and passenger comfort. The person behind the driver is locked in and I don't wish that upon anyone.

I had a '99 with 3 doors, always wished it had the 4th door.I have a 4 door 2008 extended cab now. I like the suicide door configuration, helps if you want to get something large in the back seat area. And the NNBS doors open all the way flat.

I had a 1997 Silverado that did not have any third door. I think maybe the early run ones didn't have option?. I just googled the 97 just to make sure because I just couldn't remember . Sure enough the pictures don't lie. I worked with a guy that had a truck just like mine but his was a 1998 1/2 . This half year model is when the Silverado started as the name of the model not a trim level. His tailgate didn't have the large chrome band across it, just Silverado at bottom corner. I sure miss that 1997 truck. If I could put that body on my 07 (nnbs) ,with four doors of course I would be happy. The size of these trucks have gotten out of hand.

While at the Chicago auto show I looked at the new Colorado/ Canyon and the crewcab-longbed was pretty close to size of my old 97. By the way that new Canyon is sharp looking .
