Hit the nail on the head here.. Chances are better then not that it is a supplier issue using a type of lubricant/coolant that is not GM specified and the only way GM could have picked it up was using some kind of FTIR gun to test it for unwanted contaminates before assembly/waxing... Hell I bet GM isn't even doing the wax in house.. So before GM gets a group of people with pitchforks and torches on there front yard give them a chance to render the situation right...

Read the thread. They're only "rendering it right" for certain VIN #'s they deem to have an issue. The rest of us just have "normal" pre-mature frame rust that we have to live with as they quietly address the issue on later builds.

My 10 month old truck GMC Sierra SLT 2014 frame is rusting fast.

Are you kidding me with this?? Never seen it this bad, seen bad as GM has the absolute worst frame rust out there. But, this is unacceptable.

Can you show us a few pictures of the truck that give us context? I'm north of you and my Aug 14 build looks lole new despite living north of you. That is definitely not normal. I would expect rust like that after 5 years without washing off road salt.

Shit, I wouldn't expect rust like that after sitting 50 years in the ocean! Somethings not right with that picture.

The only truck I've seen rust like that was my coworker's Toyota Tacoma. After the recall he bought a new one. It's rusting just as fast.

Wow, GM is making it hard for me to buy their trucks! I'm supposed to go this week to test a Costco buying program Chevrolet Silverado. Buying trucks has gotten to be like voting - trying to pick the one that's "well, maybe not too bad..." It's really a lot more stressful than buying a house!

Oh, I think I'll cancel my drive appointment. Just keep my '02, it's still got a lot of life, and NO rust!

It's a fully boxed frame, not c channels. That's one of the reasons they dip it in wax to properly coat the interior surfaces of the boxed frame.

I would rather have a galvanized frame IMO. Same process just the frame would be silver instead of black... Like many tubed boat trailers nowadays

After so many months of problems and the rust problem as well GM approved me for a trade in assistance thru the Dealer that was helping me out (this is not the dealer I bough it) I end up getting a Sierra 2500 HD 2015 brand new and Made is the US, not Mexico. I hope I will not have rust problem, heated seat, radio, paint flaking off... This one looks is build right.

I don't have the truck anymore since GM did the Trade in assistance with me but this pictures are from 2 weeks ago, one picture is the driver side and the other is the passenger side. The truck was rust proof numerous times over the 10 months I had it,

not sure if i can add much as my 2011 Silverado sits in a garage from November until End of March, butat 23,000 miles the wax dip is holding up ok with a few minor touch ups ((where lift pads removed coating etc.). The truck was made in Indiana (West Bend?).

I wonder if the frames used on USA builds is a different supplier than Mexico units?

I doubt there will ever be a recall on these frames. The NHTSA investigation into rusting brake lines was dropped agreeing with GM that rusting lines are a 'maintence issue' { ; ) }. Since the government is a major stock holder in GM, it would not be financially good to get GM to do the right thing & reimburse/repair this substandard design, At least Toyota treated the customers well on the early Tundra's!

when mine starts rusting, I'll apply Fluid Film the to the frame, then exchange for a toyota. Done with the 3.

Damn that looked pretty terrible. I jusst noticed the pictures and info you had posted in a different thread. The attempts GM had the dealer do were pretty unacceptable. I'm glad to hear they worked with you on a trade deal.

I brought my 5 month old 2015 Silverado to the dealership I bought it from and was told "surface rust is normal". Funny thing is the 10 year old Silverado I traded in had less rust than the 2015 I have now. I called and made a complaint with GM, hopefully it gets resolved.

This stuff should be showing up on my doorstep today: https://www.daubertchemical.com/store/product-list/corrosion-prevention/nox-rust-x-121b

I'm hoping I can spray it right over the rust and don't have to do too much surface prep. Like Rustoleum or something.

I wouldn't spray that right over rust, it will hold in the moisture. First spray something like rust encapsulator on it and then this stuff. I've ordered a couple cans to do my frame and then I think I'll do some sort of chassis or frame paint, and maybe a factory like wax coating after.

I've just come to a sad realization. I'm using products designed for restoring classic cars that are decades old to clean up my one year old truck.....

    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
