1500 Standard, Double, Crew, 5.3L, 6.2L?

Last month I bought a 2014 Silverado 5.3L 1500 Crew 6.5' bed which I am quite pleased with.

But now I am getting asked a few questions I'm not sure how to answer:

Is the 6.2L available in the Standard Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab?

If so what is the average price difference and mileage difference?

Are they all available with 5.5, 6.5 and 8' beds too?

I hear people referring to the 6.5 as a short bed. Is that correct? If there are 3 sizes then isn't it a medium??

Are any of these options different on the 2015's?

The 8' long bed is only available on the reg cab and double cab. The 5'8" short bed is only available on the crew cab. The 6'6" bed is the "standard bed" for all three cab models. The 6.2 is only available in the double cab and crew cab trucks in LTZ/SLT or High Country/Denali trim levels. I think the fuel mileage rating on the 6.2 is 14/20??? But honestly, I've not heard of any 6.2's getting worse mileage than those numbers (disclaimer; when its driven respectfully). Drop the hammer and like anything else the mileage drops too. I hauled my boat this afternoon from Huntsville, AL to Soddy Daisy, TN and ran 78-79 up the 85 mph on the interstate and averaged 16-17 MPG. I was driving it pretty hard though as evident in the MPG. Dropped the boat off and coming back to Huntsville I got my NORMAL 22-23 MPG running 68-69 up the 75 mph. I have 4300 miles on my 6.2 now and its really nothing short of impressive.

Oldtimers remember when there was no such thing as a 5'8" box. The 5'8" was introduced about '04 so that the crew cab short box could fit in peoples garages like the extended cab 6.5' box. (those 2 trucks have the same wheelbase and overall length)

The 8 ft was the standard size, and the 6.6' was the short.

Today, the 6'5 is the standard size; 5'8" is short and 8' is long.

Thank you. Those are impressive mileage results. Maybe I should have got the 6.2 LOL. There's always something. Is it a bigger block. I hear the big blocks are gone but I wonder if they (or anything for that matter) are still available through Chevrolet performance as a crate engine like they used to be?

No 8' bed on double cab either. Only regular cab on 1500s.

the 6.5 or 6.6 bed is now the standard bed or what used to be called the short bed or short box. Now today the 5.5 or 5.8 whatever they are coming out in is the short bed and the 8 is still the long bed.

As for MPG. Check your onstar app for lifetime MPG. Not downing anybodies figure or numbers, but over short jaunts and playing with it just about any MPG number can be obtained. Check the life time number which is more than likely closer to the advertised number for specific package.

Yeah MikeNH, that was my mistake about the 8' bed on the double cab. I really have never considered buying a double cab so I never checked them but knew you could get an extended cab with the 8' bed in years past. I should have looked before posting.

Mad Max, you can still buy a big block crate engine from GM. 427, 454(?), 502 & 572. The 454 is in question, but I am 100% positive the others are currently available as crate engines through GM Performance.

My lifetime MPG is 17 with 4382 miles on the Onstar app. Real world everyday driving nets me 18 mpg on a daily basis (about 50 miles of highway and stop/go). With a lifetime of 17 MPG mileage of 4382, then figuring in occasionally yanking my boat around, not being scared to mat the pedal at least once a week, only been on two road trips of over 200 miles, I think the 17 is actually a pretty conservative "lifetime" number. The 6.2's are very impressive. If they keep this up I can forsee them taking alot of the air out of the diesel segment, save for the exception that a few people that own a diesel actually work the truck.
