Steering wheel play

My 14 silverado has 4000 miles. Ive had a 2 inch front level since new and just added 1 inch to the rear last week The truck was just aligned and rides great

Since the alignment I noticed that my steering has play. My mechanic checked it out and noticed play in the upper portion of the Column at the steering wheel. The alignment is on spec and everything else is tight

Anyone else have issues with play in the steering? It drives me nuts!

Do you mean the upper section of the steering column that is visible in the engine compartment area. I have not heard of anyone with this issue.

Anyone out there with this issue?

No. The part inside the cabin

You can grab the shaft in the footwell and hold onto the steering wheel and the steering wheels moves

The electric power steering is notoriously "loose" feeling. But there there have been situations where the steering rack has been bad from the factory on some of these new trucks.

Not sure how your dealer would treat it though with you having a modified front end.

My mechanic had a 14 sierra in the shop for wheels He checked it and it had no play like mine did.

My play is in the top part of the column by the steering wheel

Are you using the steering wheel to pull yourself up into the truck? I'm thinking these steering columns have break-away parts in them for collision safety. I know for a fact my mom's top of the line Buick does. She uses her steering wheel to get in and out, and ended up breaking a part in there. It was a part that is designed to fracture in the case of a collision. Several hundred dollar fix.

I don't have a lift or leveling kit in my truck, but I am still going to order that "A" Pillar Assist Handle for my truck. This just reminded me to get it ordered.

Good luck.

I had my rack replaced last week because of power steering failure. When I picked the truck up I still had a light on so the Tech had to come back with his computer and re calibrate it. There is a torque sensor has to be re learned when you do an alignment. He did a alignment and didn't re learn the torque sensor. He told me it would have play n the steering and cause the light on. I'm not saying that is the problem but once he re learned all the alignments then he re learned the torque and it was fixed. The tech told me you have to have the computer for alignments to calibrate the computer in the rack and pinion. I don't know if this is your problem but it was mine. I hope this helps .
