94 C1500 inst cluster auto trans shift selector indicator

I'm in the process of rebuilding the dash panel. When I disassembled it, the cable from the instrument cluster that attaches the gear selector indicator to the steering column came off without me having to disconnect it.

Now I'm trying to reassemble the dash and I can't tell where this cable should attach on the steering column and I can't see or feel anything on the steering column that rotates when I change the selector lever.

Any help finding this attachment point will be greatly appreciated.

You have to remove the steering wheel and the discs under it. Once you get down far enough there is a plastic ring with a notch in it. The cable should wrap partway around the steering column then fit into this notch (the cable should have a small metal tab on the end). If the plastic ring broke that could be your problem.

Sorry I don't have any pictures but I don't have my column torn apart right now (I did it about a year ago and I'm going by memory).

I was looking on the column itself because the shroud had come loose during disassembly of the dash panel so I didn't see how it could move the cable since it no longer rotated with the shift lever. Once I got the "72-Shroud, Gearshift Bowl" re-attached it made perfect sense. I attached the cable where the external projections are and it works fine after a little adjustment.

Many thanks.
