Absolutely necessary or an overkill?

Should I chain my glock 23's action chamber with the standard lock that it came with, put a trigger lock on the gun, and pad lock the Glock box's handle twice while it is sitting in my car and while I am work?

Best piece of advice don't let anyone know you have one in your truck, and nobody will have a reason to break into it! But if your going to secure id say the first option is the best one

These are available for our trucks http://www.lockerdown.com/current.shtml

They also have universal ones for other vehicle applications.

Don't just leave your Glock sitting in a vehicle, locked or not.

I would love to, but my employer has a "ZERO" tolerance policy on firearms being carried into the workplace unless if I sneak it in. 99.9% No one will know that I brought my Glock in, but .1% someone could discover it and report me for carrying a firearm on company premise, which could lead me to unemployment and maybe felony charges.

I would disassemble it and hide each part in a different place.

You are joking - right?

Most employers have no gun policies. I keep mine loaded in a custom lock box like inked above. And unless your employer is based someplace where guns are banned by law, violating their rule can't get you in legal trouble and regardless in most states, parking lots of off limits places are exempt.

I lock my truck, if I am in a bad part of town I lock it in the storage compartment under the jump seat.

It depends where you park, the employer lot should be rather secure. I'd be sure it and and box it may be in is out of sight. If parking in a less secure location I'd try not to ever leave a handgun in a vehicle.

Second point, with some locking methods you have to remove the magazine and unload the gun to put the lock in place. Doing this in your vehicle, away from home would generally be frowned upon. Whenever you unload, then later reload the gun you are introducing the potential( however small) of an unintentional discharge.

I just hide it in a "cubby hole" in my truck along with my wallet and my phone. Cars were being broken into often a few years ago. They were all smash and grabs and at the time I think I was still driving my '01 which had a locking center console. Wouldn't do diddly squat against anyone with a decent screw driver and knowledge on using leverage points but for smash and grabs it was adequate. You do whatever you do to make sure you feel it's secure. If someone else thinks what you do is overkill then so be it. The console vault things look nice though.

My employer has a no firearm policy that will result in termination, no defense, no appeal. That extends to all of their property, including the parking lot. It's not worth it to me to violate this policy. I have a successful career of which I intend to retire from in 5 years. Each person has to weigh what the risks and costs of violating their employer's policies are and make their own decisions. I have no intent of getting into a Constitutional legal battle with my employer.
