2014+ Plasti-dipped / painted wheels

Looks good. I have the Sierra SLT in Sonoma Red and I plan to plasti dip the rims before winter. Hopefully, this will protect the chrome rims from the salt on the roads. How many coats did you apply?

I did my bowtie's and didn't have much luck. I'm sure its user error, but it just doesn't look good. It started to crack in some places.

Can the center caps be removed? I don't see a way to take them off. It would be so much easier to paint/plasti dip the bow ties that way.

Yes, but you have to take the wheel off to knock it out from the backside.

Your wheels look good. I have no experience when it comes to plasti-dip. How well does this stuff hold up when applied to wheels?

I didn't wash them, but you get the idea. This was the 1st time I've ever used Plasti Dip. I was hesitant at first because it sounds stupid, but now I'm definitely doing it again. You can see some overspray and where I didn't tape enough. There is a website call dipyourcar.com, lots of videos. I recommend watching them. I had small running spots and stuff like that because I didn't know how to apply it. I taped my tires off, which isn't necessary. Just little tips from the pros at the company that does it daily. It is more durable than the body paint... But at the same time, it can be pulled off if you want. I was thinking about powder coating them for $400, but that just seems stupid now. 4 cans and your set! Check out the website!!!

If you do the wheels, the easiest way to "tape off" is to use a deck of playing cards. stand them upright and they slide right in between the wheel and tire. provides quick easy protection from spraying the tire. and, doing all 4 off the truck at the same time is easiest. Or a piece of cardboard behind the spokes helps too.

Trying something out since I had some Plasti Dip left over after the emblems. This is a test run, so it's not perfect by any means. It's actually too cool here in Houston to be doing this (if you can believe that). So give me some honest opinions of what you think before I go and do all four wheels.

I like that a lot SBC. I'd be curious to see the opposite look too. All black wheels with the machined trim.
