Rear Ended Today

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to my 2007 GMC. Chick plowed into me going like 50 Km/Hr. I hit the guy in front of me, he hit the guy in front of him. Cab was dented like that, frame was bent at a 45 on the one side. 18k in damage. It was repaired though.

If a dealer body shop does the repairs it will probably show on a Carfax or Auto-check type report. If a independent body shop fixes it chances are pretty good nothing will ever show.

Got rear ended today by a guy in a Mercedes - only 9000 miles on the truck. The truck definitely suffered less damage than his car, but I'm still a little worried the truck will never be right again...frame is bent some, mostly from where the hitch was hit. Will get a few body shops opinions this week. Just got my Amp Powersteps today, but going to hold off on installing for now. :nopity:

How did this ever go? Get it perfect fixed? I only ask cause my truck was rear ended as well and I believe it bent the hitch and maybe even the frame. I fixed the bed to where it's level and even but the bumper it still offset nobody notices it but I do and it bugs me lol

Sorry to hear this judging by the damage he must of been easy over 40mph+ I had a 05 Colorado single cab and it took 3 rear ends each just right under 30mph and never Bent the frame etc the bumpers was bent but let me tell that small chrome bumper is stronger than it looks hope u get it fix and yea trucks come and go in life keep your head up high.

Probably would have agreed with you a few years ago until I watched this.

While it is not a '83 Silverado, same concept.

While we can all agree on front end impact I do believe a old Chevy would have recieved a ding in the bumper after a hit like that.

The frames of those old trucks were a joke though, the fully boxed frame in these trucks are great minus the fact that they are so stiff that the whole truck vibrates.

Friday night on the way home from dinner it almost happed to me. Rear end accidents are pretty common here on A1A, in fact two occured in front of my house this year.

I always use the turn signal and brake well in advance of my driveway, and watch the cars behind me. So I'm braking and the car behind me keeps coming, as I hear him lock up the brakes, I hit the gas full throtle. He or she came within inches of me. You have to wonder what is up with so many drivers not paying attention!!! I'd have been pissed as my 2015 Silverado only has about 5,000 miles on it.

OP, I hope everything works out good for you!!!

It is SNOWBIRD season! They cant see past the end of their hood, or determine the difference between the brake pedal and the gas pedal!

My buddy bought a brand new 12 LTZ. Had 5,000 miles and was involved in a bad wreck. Did 24K in damages. They got him a new frame and rebuilt the whole truck because it was worth 28K or so in the insurance company's eyes. Been 3 years and he said it runs great with no problems. He said the dealer said they can use used parts to rebuild it as long as the part have less miles then his parts had. For him he got basically all new parts. What sucks is you are never compensated for the loss of value due to the dirty car fax.

I thought the same thing...I'm going to go to a few more shops for estimates.

Did they really quote you .2 hours labor, or $9.60, to disconnect a battery cable?

I know it's a computer program but still seems... stupid.

A ding in the bumper? OK

The frame is not the vibration issue as if I remember correctly it is a carryover from the gmt900. I believe the isolators & suspension were tweaked.

But do not remember anything related to stiffer frame for the K2xx.

I was rear ended today sitting at a stop light. 2015 with only 4500 miles! Lady behind me started to go before the light turned. Bumper messed up but doesn't look like it touched the bed.

Glad it was nothing more than that. But it still sucks to have a brand new truck & have to start replacing things due to an accident.

Yeah, just the PITA of getting it all handled, dealing with her insurance company, etc. she said it doesn't look that bad, could i just pay for it and not use insurance? Told her it was a new truck and pretty sure it was going to be over a grand to fix. Then I asked her, you do have insurance, right? Didn't have her proof, driving a loaner car, blah blah blah. Took a picture of her drivers license to be sure. Called her insurance company and it seems she is covered by them so we will see.

    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
    • To me it honestly makes zero difference what filter you run. It's not a race engine, just a truck engine that's mostly bumming highways and it just needs a filter that filters oil.   The filter used to be a 7060 and the long version was a 7045. Now it's the newer updated filter that the K2XX trucks and newer run, the 100255 I believe if we are using napa numbers. Any of those filters is going to do the job.   I wouldn't overthink it, to me it makes no difference because those first filter numbers worked for 18+ years before the spec suddenly changed.
