Rear Ended Today

Got rear ended today by a guy in a Mercedes - only 9000 miles on the truck. The truck definitely suffered less damage than his car, but I'm still a little worried the truck will never be right again...frame is bent some, mostly from where the hitch was hit. Will get a few body shops opinions this week. Just got my Amp Powersteps today, but going to hold off on installing for now.

OUCH! Glad your ok though. He must have hit your pretty hard to push the bed into the cab like that. I know what you mean by saying your truck will never be the same. In my gmt 800 a lady pulled out of a private drive and hit me in the back of the cab of the truck on the passenger side and while they fixed it and I had no leaks, the paint inside the door jam was never the same and it bothered the heck out of me every time I cleaned my truck. Damn! If the frame is compromised between the cab and bed, they might total it... Hope everything works out for you though.

You are looking at an easy 10k in damages & an additional 5k in mdminished value. Do not take the truck back without a vey fat diminished value check. Your carfax will knock a ton of value off that truck if you try to trade or sell it. Get paid this money now or lose it forever.

 

I will look into it again, but I have a feeling I'm just flat out of luck. Michigan is a no-fault state only allows diminished value to cover deductible.

Dang dude, that really sucks. Sorry to see such a nice truck get screwed up like that. When mine is barely a year old I was rear ended by a guy going about 25-30mph and I was fortunate that it just bent the bumper and brackets. Your friend there must have been going faster than that. Matter of fact I was rear ended for the 3rd time in this truck. It was only a love tap at a red light so the hitch ball took one for the truck...again. IF the truck is repaired, go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything is right. Also request a list of the parts to be installed and make sure they are new OEM parts. Years ago I was in an accident and I was getting the shaft because the insurance company was trying to put used/damaged parts on my truck to "repair" it.

Man the Merc looks totalled - yours not so much and doesn't look that bad from the pictures. Main thing is that you're ok, vehicles can be repaired.

Sucks for sure, no way I would allow anything less than new parts for repairs. The moment the insurance company offered anything less than that I would have the biggest pitbull of an attorney on retained sending them a letter on my behalf. Same goes for the diminished value, MI may say one thing but an attorney will go along ways in protecting your interest as the others guys insurance is only out for the own interest which is getting out as cheap as possible.

I agree.. Any time a truck has frame damage or serious body work it's never the same... I would try and get insurance to total it or if you get it back sell it. IMo
