Just about perfect, thanks for snapping those pics! I might be buying some 18's soon after seeing this!

 

Where did you get the package?

 

I actually got them at 4 Wheel Parts. I usually order all my stuff through Discount Tire Direct but they had a sale on the Ko2's for $235 compared to Discounts $288 ea. I was originally going to go with the Toyo At2 but the Ko2's were ~$20 cheaper per tire and from what I had read were a better snow/winter tire. Since I plan on making a few trips to Denver this year that was a deciding factor. The NV's were the same price from both places at $236, the Black Pro Comp lug nuts were $40 and an "all-inclusive" warranty was thrown in for $90.

 

 

Edit: Just a quick update. I had a chance to drive on the highway today and had terrible vibrations starting from around 60mph. I already made an appointment to drop off the truck at 7am on Thursday, hopefully they can get it taken care of but at this point I'm sure its a driveline vibration since the tech yesterday said the wheels and tires didn't require much weight. Really, really hope the dealer won't make a fuss about the Bilsteins but if that's the case I would be willing to revert back to the black shocks to get them to address it. lkjfdljkaljkfljkdfjafdajdfjklfdasjkladjlkadfjkladf

My appointment is at 8am to have the wheels balanced. I'm even paying for it myself instead of taking it back to the same place that previously mounted the KO2's. Tomorrow's place is known around here for being good at this.

 

I just hope they don't tell me that my rims are screwed (GM will never replace them now that they're powdercoated) or that one or more of the tires are out of spec.

Yea, the driveline on these trucks seems to be ubber-sensitive which I think derives from a rear end or driveshaft issue. I even went out of my way and paid way more than I should of to have the new set mounted and balanced at the dealer since I didn't want to have issues from "bad-balancing" I drove it quite a while yesterday but didn't get a chance to do a highway drive but the tech did tell me it drove great. So now I have to go back and have them re-check them and did ask them to specifically check the driveline.

 

I just now they are going to come back at me with, "well the vibrations are really being caused at by those aftermarket HEAVY DUTY shocks you have on there" Right..... my old 2500 Ram with a 3" Carli kit on the same 5100's at least drove smooth down the highway.

 

Anyways, there is already a 350+ page thread on that issue. Just wanted to give an update.

Did your truck have vibes before you put the new wheels and tires on? I know I'm stating the obvious but my guess would be the wheels and tires, even if they balanced out, the RF #'s could be high causing the issue.

Yes, the truck has always had a slight vibration. Its on and off but slight. Two week ago I went in for a oil change and tire rotation and after that there was an increase in the cabin vibrations. At this point the Goodyears are 3/4's worn with 40k miles on them so I figure that its due to wear or whatnot and hope a new set will clear it up. New set comes in, go to dealer yesterday and drive with HEAVY vibrations on the way out. Now I'm here.

I was just thinking. There are retainer clips on the rear hubs (I'm blanking the actual name right now) that the stock wheels have a cutout for but aftermarket wheels don't. If they didn't pull these retainer clips off your rear wheels will not be mounting flush which would cause the vibration. Might be something to check. Number 2 on the following diagram.

When I had the bad wheel (on the rear) my truck started doing the center console shake that the trucks in the 350 page thread were doing. Any driveline and rear end vibration seems to be exciting the truck. I think there's something very borderline in terms of resonant frequencies and harmonics in these trucks that allows anything off spec int he rear or a situation the result of tolerance stacking to cause this vibration.

Turns out, my rims are totally fine.

 

The problem is one rear tire was completely out of spec. The dealer I bought the tires from told me they were having a hard time balancing one of the tires on the "new machine" last week when I got them. Then they came out and said they put the tire on the old machine and all of a sudden it balanced. Obviously I was pretty weary of this but said whatever I have new tires.

 

I'm at a different shop right now and they managed to find me a new tire at a local warehouse and it's being rushed over here now. They're even going to send back the faulty tire for me.

 

Pretty sweet deal! I hope the truck is vibration free now.

Running an 18x9 and a 0 offset. 33x12.50 Toyo Open Country RT. No rubbing. This is with a Rough Country 2" level.

Truck is now 95% vibration free and a world better than it was before getting this work done properly.

 

I don't think the remaining 5% is due to tires or rims at least.

 

 

A lot better for sure.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
