Thinking ahead - Rust Proofing???

I have probably 1/10 the knowledge of most posters here when it comes to this type of stuff but I thought vehicles and rust were a thing of the past?

Very few things on this earth that wont rust/corrode. But you are right cars do not rust like they used doesnt make them rust proof by any means though.

Mine was done through the dealer at an independent contractor BEFORE I took delivery, so if GM isn't on the hook, they are. This was a Dealer added option, similar to all the other dealer added options. I asked about this before hand, and they said it didn't effect my warranty. My cousin was my salesman, so he better not have lied to me! This may mean through them? You might want to pin them down a little more, or get an official GM answer. I buy my trucks to keep for several years, not to trade off in 3 or 4. If you trade off every few years, then it will be the next owners problem. You do get a higher resale value whey you trade or sell here in my area, if it has been rustproofed.

If you go to Ziebart or similar AFTER you take delivery, then YOU may be on the hook? Just like the guys that add the lift kits after they take delivery. The dealer added lift kits are still warrantied through GM and the dealer.

You obviously don't live in Michigan, or you never leave the pavement? They salt/brine the paved roads for six months during the winter, and brine the gravel roads for the other six months of non-winter here. I live 2-1/2 miles from the nearest pavement, 3-1/2, the way I like to go. There are 5 year old Rams driving around here with rust through right above the rear wheel wells. See them every day. Only takes about 10 years for a GM or Ford to look the same.

Most of my vehicles end up in the 250,000 - 300,000 mile range before I get rid of them. So to me, in my geographical location, it is a good investment.

Yes it means through them, unless its a GM OEM part affixed to the truck or service sponsored by GM it will not be covered by GM, which rust proofing isnt one of them

They might be good for it, but a dealer sponsored service and warranty, dont know how much faith I would put into that.

I've been buying and rustproofing GM's & Ford's for 37 years, never had any problem because they were rustroofed. Don't expect that to be any different on this one.

I supposed you wouldnt. And I have no problem with it, probably a good idea depending on your location. My point was actually trying to get a dealer to back their warranty 5-6 years down the road when people have left/things have changed etc. I can just see sitting at a dealer with a 3-4 grand fix on my hands telling them their rust proofing caused it, and getting the smile with a sorry we cant help you response.

Ok let put a twist on this rust thing… The inner fenders are felt… They will hold that salt in and they but right on the fenders.

There for rust the fenders faster… Thoughts?
