Tire Vibration from Lateral Runout

Hi all,

I have a 2014 Sierra crew cab 2wd. I have had the rear tires on my truck balanced 4 times by 4 different places. One by GM (when they were put on) , another by a local shop, and twice by discount tire (where the tires were originally purchased from). Each time I watched the tech do it, they each said they were balanced and either needed a half of an ounce one way or another, which I know can be machine calibration, the way the tech mounted it up etc. So basically they were balanced correctly from the get go. Each tire has less than 13# of road force and didn't take a whole lot of weight to balance, which is great for all terrains IMO.

I still have vibration in my seats and console over about 72 miles an hour. I have yet to swap them from back to the front to see if it moves to the steering wheel, which would be my best bet most likely, but I wanted to check before I break out all of the tools. My question is, can a tire still be out, even if it shows up on the machine that it is fine? Will lateral runout show up on a Road force machine, or just radial (out of round).I watched and one tire had a little tread wobble, not very bad at all though, and not enough to cause the tech any concern.

I am almost positive it is tires because I didn't have a vibration or if I did, it was very minimal and very livable with the stock Goodyears. Of course with the "Shake or Vibration" thread, I am wondering if its any other issues (drive shaft, rear end etc)

I am just trying to get an opinion if any of you have seen this issue even though the tire "balances out, and has low road force numbers"

Thanks in advance!

I've read most of the posts in the "Shake/Vibration" thread. The prevailing opinion over there is that the vibration is tire-related. What tires did you put on your truck?

I have read the entire thread as well and have been an active poster in it, as I had my first truck bought back by GM due to vibration issues. The tires I put on my truck are Cooper Discoverer ATP 275-60-20.

I am sitting at the tire shop now with the same issue. The good years were fine but I live in the woods so I swapped out for a set of Bridgestone Revo 2's. They started vibrating on me and I am having the shop check them out. I had the Revo 2's on a previous truck and they were smooth as silk for an AT tire.

Yeah, its very strange, all the tires check out on the 3 different machines, but I still have a vibration and the Goodyears were fine. I wonder if a belt is starting to separate or something internal on one of the tires that the Road Force machine isn't catching and doesn't show up until higher speeds. Hopefully you and I can get this figured out. Let me know what you come up with!

I had one tire out of balance and it feels much better now but still a little vibration. I wonder if that is residual from driving with it out of balance for 500 miles and it will wear in?

More detailed response now that I have a spare minute.

One tire was out of balance on the truck and the re-balance has made it much better but there is still a vibration at speed (65 mph)...starts at about 50 mph or so. The tire shop doesn't have a Road Force, but the dealer does. Gonna take it to the dealer and have them take a look at the situation and troubleshoot for vibration.

I ran these Revo 2 tires on my previous Z71's (2007 Classic and 2010) without problems and they were perfect combination of road/off-road. It looks like they aren't gonna be the tire for this truck. If you have to Road Force every set of tires, that is gonna be a mess.

So...I went to the dealer and their troubleshooting led to re-balancing the tires and told me they were off by at least an oz or two. Well, they felt the same to me so I went back to the tire shop and they took the Revo 2's back and gave me a full refund.

Put the stock SRA'S on and problems went away.

Makes me wonder if I had a bad tire or two with the Revo's or these trucks can't handle a more aggressive tire?

The rims could be out of round (should show when balancing), or the tires are not manufactured properly, and the compounds are not evenly distributed around the circumference of the tire.

An old timers trick, "how much weight did it take to balance the tire? Any amount over 1.5 oz is too much, and can be related to inferior manufacturing JMHO.

Try another major brand of tire.
