Sub & amp finally in

Recommended Posts

Finally got time to take the truck in and get the system put in. Earthquake 12" sub powered by earthquake amp. I had them install a 8" but it didn't hit hard enough so I had him swap it for a 12. I kept the stock head unit it but I'm not getting the volume I want out of my system & I think that's the problem.. The owner said a new set of speakers would help tremendously since these head units have built in amps already that cause the truck to not play loud to protect the speakers ? Who knows he's expert not me.. Anyone with advice to get the volume cranked up more? New head unit ?? Speakers? What first.

New head unit is prolly my next choice.. New head units allow more volume & bass correct? Will all my steering wheel functions work with a new head unit?

I dont know... you change out the HU, you are possible opening up a slew of other issues. I have the stock HU and BOSE... added a single JL 10T3 and JL amp... it sounds unreal.

The guy who does all my audio said a new set of speakers would do wonders & I agree. But I don't want my stock stereo to chock the new speakers. I want the most out of the speakers I can get. There has to be some sort of way to bypass this crap on the stock radio... I need more volume!!

I would leave the factory head unit. Just change out the door speakers to a brand you like 3 - way or 4 - way sounds best. And install a 4 channel amp, in run all your door speakers to that. Will sound better.

That was my next option^ thanks for clarifying. Will the new speakers still sound good with the stock radio? Or will they be choked from there full capability because of the radio? I just want the most out of my system if I'm

Gonna spend the money.

Oh yea thell sound good as long as you have them running to a separate amp, you can adjust the highs and lows from there.

The guys trying to sell me his custom speakers, there called shockwaves, he's actually the owner of the company and designed the sub and speakers himself. He swears by them, I heard them in a car he had and it sounded fantastic... Would I be ok without running an amp to them? Or is an amp necessary with the new speakers ?

Depending how many watts they are and how much your factory system can push you could run it like that but you might run into the same problem that your having right now. If you don't want to run another amp just try out the speakers he's got and go from there.
