so, took my 2014 silverado in yesterday for inspection and the last two recalls. after them having the truck for about 6 hours, they called me to tell me part of "the electrical system" blew out during one of the downloads. they managed to get some of the stuff back up and running (weren't specific about what was running and what wasn't), but then said they had tried to do it all over again and this time everything blew and the truck was undriveable.

soooo.....they sent me home in a brand new 2014 pretty much fully loaded GMC Tahoe SLT (55K sticker), and told me they might need my truck "well into next week" and they have a service tech from GM coming tuesday.

i'm a total novice when it comes to mechanical stuff like this, anybody have any thoughts on how serious this is?

i want my rig back!!

I doubt there is any mechanical damage, likely one module or another had some sort of fault during an update and has bricked. Unfortunately it's not like a computer where you can reboot in safe mode, the module is probably finished and they'll need to order a new one programmed to your truck.

Correct, module crashed but they can be ordered ready to go. new module has to be flashed as well. Dealers are really struggling with flashing the modules it seems. They had problem on mine as well and had to call GM tech support to get it done.

thanks guys. i think my angst is mainly that they seem so clueless about what was going on but i don't exactly live in texas or nebraska so i don't think my dealership has 50 silverados coming through the shop every week.

I'm waiting on one for my radio to come in, Have been waiting for a week now. From what my dealer says, Parts dept. can't order a new one till Tech Support has been notified and discussed what problem is happening.. Sounds like right hand and left hand don't have a clue , Or maybe just job security.

All sounds stupid to me, Bad part, order new one. pretty simple I think. But what do I know I don't work for GM.

The dealer never takes the responsibility to order a part under warranty if they are not 100% sure that this is the problem. The reason is simple, if they replace the part and the problem still there, the dealer must the pay the cost of the part, not GM.

Drive the the hell out of whatever they have you.. I personally would demand a new truck, dealers story is sketchy to me

I had my CTS stuck on a rack for three days when this happened it's not that big of a deal, it does sound like some module was "bricked" it happens and it’s actually a good thing. When there is an error in writing the new program the module locks up this prevents a corrupted file from being used and it also makes it very risky for the aftermarket. The module are likely not damaged but it takes very high level access to correct it. Because of this the dealer may have to send the box in to get “unbricked”. I’ve had to do this a couple times at my work when the internet connection was lost during a flash.
