I often wonder what my truck will be like in 40 years .... 40 year old electronics ought to perform wonderfully ...

Nice Cutlass! I don't see to many mid 70's vehicles around here much, although recently they are coming out of the woodwork. 60's cars are becoming untouchable, so those and even 80's vehicles are starting to show up more than ever. Maybe I'd better hang on to my rusty '89 S10 Blazer ...

Took the CX5 while the stuff cures on the Tahoe. Haven't seen my wife so happy to drive since we sold the Vette. She is the opposite of a car person. Some cars transend that I guess...

I sure do remember those cars. I always liked the Can Am and the '73-'75 Hurst/Olds, the '74 Hurst/Olds and '76 Buick Regal Indy pace cars, among others. I think the collector market is just now beginning to barely recongnize cars from that era.

I've always thought smog killed them so much that the "all original" cars will never have the market pre 1971 cars have. But, then you'll see the occasional Smokey style TA sell for over 40k

Yeah that's what kept them from being very sought after all these years. Now with nothing affordable left, (and prices of those era cars rising too) people are digging them out of mothballs. Good thing is, all that crap can be jettisoned without too much effort. I can;t even tell you how many MILES of vacuum line I have hanging in the barn from that ...

It wasn't smog so much as it was gas mileage. The 73-77 cars sold in numbers that will never be seen again, since everybody bought American cars til later. The across -the- board redesigns in 1978 were just downright ugly, plus nobody wanted a downsized car anyway. Can you imagine "upgrading" from this:

to this?:

Yeah that was a big part of it too. The cheapout years ... a never-ending saga it seems.

So true about the downsized models '78 and up. I do like the last gen Olds 442 ('86-'87) and Buick T-Type/GNX from same years, though.

I have had just a couple of 80's GM cars (out of 80+ classics)...an 84 Riv Convertible and an 86 GN. Horrible build quality...doors all rattle, thin sheet metal (w/o the engineering they have today to make them tight) . Disgraceful cars. The GN will run though...that's for sure.

Always loved that body from that era - the GN, Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal.

I had an '85 Monte when it was 7 years old. Thing used to belch blue smoke at every light, and fog the road out when I took off. Took 20 seconds for second gear to slip slip slip in, and about the same length of time to get into reverse. Thing had hit everything but the lottery, but I used to take that thing everywhere! I could let go of the steering wheel on long right hand sweepers and it would steer right around it - my buddies used to laugh their asses off. Thing pulled to the right like you wouldn't believe. I took that thing to the mountains of NH, and rolled through NYC a couple times. Only left me stranded once in 3 years - right at an auto parts store with a bum starter, lol. What a gem that was! Still ran like a top though. As crappy as it was, it was one of the best cars I owned in those days.

HAHAHA! Hot water heater, with someone's lamp shade on top, lol. "Luxury apartments" there ...

Yeah we tried buffing it out .... with a BFH.

I just noticed the rear rims packed with snow, from blowing it out sideways every time I took a turn. :D

I installed 3 gauges in mine today. 2 Aeroforce and one boost gauge. Tomorrow or Wednesday stabilizer bars will be going in.

Now if I can figure out how to adjust the contrast on those first 2 that would be awesome lol....if you know how please reply to my thread about it.
