All you need to know on page 1 post 8

Thanks for the info. This points me in the right direction but it won't work with the Silverado.

I looked through the connector pin list and nothing is listed for low beam headlight relay. This makes

sense for the Sierra as you only have a single bulb headlight and the high beam is turned on by moving the shutter in front of the bulb (according to the HID sticky thread).

I'm hoping someone has similar BCM pinout info for the Silverado.

This would be much easier if Helm would publish the 2015 service manuals soon. I'm guessing with the

8-speed transmission addition it will probably be 6 months until they get the manual out.

Anyone have the Silverado headlight wiring diagram out of the 2014 Helm manual?

Thanks again.

I just did this mod with my 2014 Chevy Silverado in the same spots as it says to and the mod works great.

There are quite a few with Silverados in this thread that did it and worked just fine. Just use Spurshots pics as a guide and should work

Thanks Spurshot, followed your directions from Page 1 and works like a charm. Got fogs with high beam like it should have been from the factory. Isn't the idea of high beams to put out as much light as possible for your driving safety?

ok, I've read from page 1 to about page 16.

have decided to go 10~22 but my question is

I have 2015 Denali, and from what I read, 10~22

turns on the fogs with the parking lights..

I typically do not touch the light switch... its on

automatic, except to turn on the fogs. So will this

jump 10~22 "automatically" turn on the fogs when

the engine is started? I realize the Chevy has a

different headlight configuration and this is what

is throwing my logic that 10~22 will work...

any help or clarifing would be helpful. If this works

and I get the damn diode in, I'll have 9 diodes to

send out to anyone who wants one...

Foglights will come on when low beams come on. With DRL, no foglights. I have same jump 10-22 and keep my switch on auto. You wont have control of foglights but they will be on at all times with low and high beams.

Here's the circuit. BCM is between the dash switch and the fuse/main buss as I suspected.

Foglightschematic_zps118fa794.jpg

instead of useig a diod what don't you just grond the wire coming from the fog light really befor going into the BCM then you can still turn them off with the hi beams on if you want to Edited by Rme2513

scratch that then they would be on all the time. There is not an actual switch in line it is done in the BCM

This was on the Duramax forum. I believe it is for a GMT 900. But the principles are likely applicable to a K2. Use this information cautiously.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This is a write-up for how to make your low beams and/or fog lights stay on when you switch to high beams...This mod costs all of about $1 and should take no more then 15 minutes..its very very easy and use's the trucks own built in fuses and relays. Credit for this goes to Will from duramax diesels...i just made some additions and modifications..

All you need is a set of diodes that you can get from your local Radio Shack. The part number that I used was 1N4004. I have read that 4001,4002,4003 and 4004 will all work. These diodes come in a 2 pack and cost $.97.

You will do this mod under the hood at the fuse block on the drivers side of the truck. Make sure that the truck is off before reaching in there. You shouldn't need to unhook the batteries or anything like that.

On the bottom of the relays is the numbers for the different pins. You will be using the 85 pin for these mods. Also, on the bottom of the lid of the fuse block is a diagram showing the numbers of the pins along with which relay goes where. The 3 relays that are used are in the lower left hand corner of the fuse block

Hi-lows on at the same time.

You will need to connect the 85 pin of the low beams relay to the 85 pin on the hi beams relay. Make sure that the "bottle cap (or end with the stripe)" is going towards the hi beam relay. You can either wrap the wire around the metal pin or slide it into the hole that the pin goes into. Either will work.

Hi-fog on at the same time.

For some reason GM decided that when your high beams are on, your fog lights don't need to be(actually i believe this is a law) . Well I like my fog lights on adding more light. With the hi beams on adding a lot of light, then the fog lights on adding more light can't be a bad thing right?

To do this you will need to connect the 85 pin of the fog lights to the 85 pin of the hi beams. Make sure that the "bottle cap (or striped end)" is going towards the hi beam relay. Again you can either wrap the wire around the pin or push it into the hole that the pin goes into. If you are doing the lows plus the fogs it can be a little tight on the 85 pin of the hi beam pin. For this I wrapped one diode around the pin and the other got pushed into the hole with the pin(i pushed both into the slot...they fit you just need to push down hard on the relay) . You will still have control of your fog lights on low by switch but by doing this the fog lights will always be on with hi beams.

This Mod works perfectly with HID's as well as regular bulbs.

The pic shows how I have it wired. Sorry for the poor picture but hopefully the labels will help better explain things. the second pic is what the diode pack looks like from radioshack..its on the left

Do you have a picture of how the diodes look in the fuse box? I have figured out the underdash mod, but am looking for the hi-low combo as well. Thanks

On Jul 11 2014, when you originally posted this, I ordered some diodes the next day. Now its June 2nd 2015 and I just got the install done LMAO!!!.

Most expensive mod I have done to date, but that mostly because I dropped & broke my iPad Mini 3 LTE device while trying to look at your pictures from an inverted position. :)

I don't remember saying this was going to be cheap to do. The best mods are always expensive.smiley_quickdraw.gif

I have the receipt dated July 22, 2014 and diodes sitting right in front of me. Haven't even broke them out of the package yet. How sad is that?

I was waiting for the headlight update, and it is much better driving at night now. Now I can't decide which way I want to go with it, so I am at a stalemate, or impass, or procrastination, or something like that?

I may get around to it someday?

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
