They repurchased mine. It was not a wind flex issue. I saw the amount of material they used on my liner. Tubes of glue and more supports and it didn't change a thing.

Interesting comments in an article about the "calming and tranquil environment" include:

  • "new shear-style mounts that act like a shock absorber while significantly improving stiffness"
  • "More than two dozen enhancements advance quietness in the all-new 2015 Yukon."
  • "Acoustic baffles in the door headers"
  • "the list of improvements includes a special acoustic headliner, acoustic wheel house liners, acoustic hood blanket, dash mats on both sides of the front of dash and fender-to-body baffles."
  • Customers are consistently impressed by the quietness of the cabin, demonstrating the SUVs’ blend of sophistication, craftsmanship and function.”

Maybe a 'new' feature intended to suppress noise is actually doing the opposite?

Jason, was it OK for a while and then came back, or was it back immediately after the roof was "repaired"?

 

Marc, save yourself some grief. Find something else to buy. There is something inherently wrong with these things and gM has no clue how to fix it. There have only been a couple of vehicles re portly "fixed" and I don't think any were from the roof repair service bulletin.

 

Fourknuckles.... Did you say that the dealer added some cross braces or something? And when you say they used a ton of glue, where did they do that? I'm been of the thought that indeed this thing needs more cross braces to stiffen up the entire roof, but if that has already been tried, then that shoots that idea down.

 

I'm still very curious about the headliner itself. Acoustic material....ya, acoustic all right. Makes noise like crazy. LOL!

jasondenali used mic plugs, but he never took a picture or provided an update after it was installed, but you did provide a picture of the cotton balls, both methods worked. As for the cotton balls, the headliner is flattening them out or they are just moving. If you can stop either from moving, the time without pressure may be extended. The headliner movement is a big deal, but we don't have a lock on that, yet. But the cotton balls worked, so if you stop the cotton balls from flattening or moving you may have something. Try taping the cotton outside of the mic and inside the O ring, put the grille back in place, then tape the grille instead of the cotton. If you isolate the space occupied by the cotton balls, headliner movement may not affect them or have a decreased impact.

Went for a ride today. I rode in the 3rd row and my wife drove. I pushed up on the headliner in numerous locations, and she said it made no difference to the noise. Sitting there, I observed very little movement of the headliner.

Not sure if anyone would find this interesting, but I have continued my search for another vehicle comparable to the YukonXL, Denali after giving up on these vehicles due to what I've experienced and all reported in this thread. To know avail, nothing, we even tried the supposively new designed FORD (ick) Expedition Platiumn. Big sales pitch, less wind noise, much quieter? Drove 5 short and long, couldn't believe it, everyone of them! BUFFETING, EAR AND HEAD PRESSURE!! Painful! Everyone in the vehicles, even the salesman felt it. What the heck! Ridiculous!

Now, that is bizarre! Totally different vehicle doing the same thing! What's the odds of that. The only thing they have in common is a big, long, flat roof.

I suspect all the manufacturers have been dealing with this issue for some time now. I doubt it's unique to this particular model from GM.

      I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need.webcrimsNY

      I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
