techlink has all the online classes that show how the techs are supposed to diagnose the problem with vibration the march 10th 2015 issue deals with part two the driveline etc they are aware of the problem. IN the end if the tech can not resolve the problem with spacers they say just replace ring and pinion gear. That is after they have elminated the tire as the cause. I couldnt get the page to copy.

Just google gm techlink then go to archives and click march 2015 scroll down to vibration analysis this may have already been posted

Good read. Here are the links:

Vibration Analysis, Part 1: Tires

Vibration Analysis, Part 2: Driveline

Full disclosure; I am going to go into my tirade without reading the last few pages of the topic, but I am a veteran of this thread.

Quick recap. We bought a 2015 Suburban LTZ back in March. The cabin pressure and vibrations were terrible. We argued with the dealer and GM forever. They know there is a problem, and even have a bulletin that is not broadcast to the public. They changed the shocks, which helped a little bit. After pleading our case and threatening to lawyer up, they said they would get us a 2016.

Didn't sound bad to us; our vehicle already has 12k miles on it, and all they would charge us for would be any difference in MSRP between the 15 and 16.

I'm guessing that we were getting one of the first 2016s out there. Well guess what?!?!?! It has the same problem. They have minimized the rough transition from V4 to V8, and it is barely noticeable. However, the cabin pressure and vibration within the vehicle, especially on rough roads is horrendous.

Be careful too; they don't offer the same colors as in the past. Why the hell would they get rid of the White Diamond Tri-coat?

Don't hold your breath for the 2016.

I think the White Diamond Tri-Coat yellowed more than they wanted. It sure did look more yellow (especially plastic parts) than other OEM's. I specifically sought out Summit White (2016) for this reason. Also, rock chip repairs look terrible when the paint doesn't match over time (i don't care how good your touch up skills are). The new color is nice but it's still pearl, just not as yellow. My beef with it was paying $1000 for a color (especially over a 3 yr lease). Made zero sense for me.

From what I understand it's the yoke flange. You guys should have them use the picoscope.

is causing what...vibration issues, buffeting (pressure issue), or both?

I believe (and hope) that they have the same root cause. The pickup truck folks feel vibration. Us SUV folk hear buffeting and feel some vibration.

Same speed sweet spots. 40mph and 70mph. That can't be a coincidence.

true but I believe there are yukon/suburban/tahoe folks that have resolved the vibration issues but not the buffeting. As much as I'd like to think it's only a vibration issue, I'm afraid there's more to it. The buffeting is horrendous in our yukon xl at 43mph when on a very smooth newly paved road all while there are no vibrations present in the steering wheel, seat, doors, body, etc.

I never really felt any vibration in my Yukon - I only heard buffeting. When my Service Manager drove it, he could feel a vibration in the seat. I still can't.

The RF balancing did make the Yukon smoother, especially north of 90mph.

Zero change in the buffeting.

It's possible that the pickup trucks have the same problem, but don't hear it because the rear mounts/suspension is separated from the passenger cabin, unlike us.

We're in the boom box. :)

I just purchase a 2015 Yukon so far no issues, however I wonder if the issue is wth the torque converter and transmission combo as I drove a friend vehicle and fleet like there was vibration coming what felt when my foot was on the gas pedal like the transmission was trying to shutter.

Do you have the std size or XL? WHat trim pkg and wheel size.

No issues so far, let me guess xspecmor's setup - standard size truck SLE/T, 18 inch wheels but no more than 20. No roof racks, no sunroof, premium ride suspension, 5.3 engine, six speed, 3.08 rear axle, second row bench, no under body splash guard, no trailering package

What exactly is a 'certified' gear set and who provides them to dealerships? Instead of replacement, can't on properly rebuild rear ends with some new parts?

I can't see how that would work unless they were fabricated parts not to specs. Fabricating parts to specs in essence would mean a replacement part.

That, or they weren't assembled properly?

I dont believe it has anything to do with the roof or being a yukon xl or suburban if it was the roof issue you would hear it at all speeds when driving. My Yukon is an SLE with 20 inch wheel i traded my 2008 Yukon and had no issues whats so ever. I think its the torque converter and tranmission issues.
