I've been holding out on buying this truck for months now waiting for a fix.

 

I know your hopes are there will be a fix and it may be in 5 or so years when GM rolls out a new generation. But with this generation, a dealer is not going to be able to do anything with body, tranny, and engine mounts. Or length, cabin volume, and metal density. Until that time, the answer will be for dealers to make an extremely annoying level of issues to a less annoying level. A dealer may play with dynamat, tires, wheels, drivetrain, and maybe different suspension items to achieve a less annoying level, but you're going to be holding out for a long time waiting on a fix. A fix is way too costly, complicated, and restrictive for an independent dealer.

CI Houn – My comment seem hopeless, but I say all this because I have read every page and posted on the thread beginning at page one, so I am basing my comments on customer data. I had my Tahoe LT for about 19 months with no dealership downtime and it has always been and continue to drive like butter, so there “is” some hope.

My truck really is like butter. Having my truck for 21 months (not 19 as stated above), I have never had any shaking, buffeting, vibration, or pressure. Now I did start another thread on pressure, but I think my issue was associated with my particular setup and the XM signal. My fix was as simple as not using those XM channels.

 

Now there are standard size trucks having issues, but my truck is standard size, Chevy 2013 build cause it was on the road to the dealer in Jan 2014, 20 inch aluminum wheels, no roof rails, no sunroof, no under carriage engine debris protection (similar to a skid plate). I have all options of the LTZ except I have fixed side steps, no Magnetic Ride suspension, no rear entertainment, and no second row captains. Can these issues happen with my truck, yes, because Chevy/GMC/Cadillac all use the same GM platform.

 

Now reverse what I said for "maximum" issues; XL size, non Chevy 2014 or later build, larger than 20 inch wheels may not be aluminum, roof rails, sunroof, undercarriage protection, moveable side steps, Magnetic Ride suspension, rear entertainment, second row captains. Not scientific but I'm not a GM engineer, the data on this thread (give or take a couple of items) leads to the GMC XL version to include Denali with Magnetic Ride suspension and 22 inch wheels as the truck with the most customer complaints associated with this thread.

 

I will say though I have not heard “any” complaints from owners of the least expensive of the GM fullsize SUVs, the Tahoe LS. Go figure…

First time poster here. I have 850 miles on my 2015i Yukon XL SLT and first noticed the pressure / booming at about 200 miles. Mine only seems to have it from 40-45 MPH, though it does have an annoying highway vibration as well. Fortunately no pressure at those speeds. Taking it into my dealer this coming week and have already forwarded them this thread. The service manager said this is the first one they've had in for the issue, but said he is willing to try anything to make it right.

 

Frank, can you PM me or post the info for your dealer that was able to fix your vehicle? I would like to get them talking if possible.

 

What a PIA for a brand new $70k vehicle.

 

My dealer is Quality Chevrolet in Escondido CA.

 

As others have mentioned, it is imperative all bows are attached to the roof. Crossbars / surf racks are not a bad idea to disrupt air flow but the roof can react to bumps and wavy pavement.

I am going full aftermarket (smaller) wheels and (bigger) tires plus more sturdy front/rear sway bars

 

Rethinking the sway, wouldn't a stiffer suspension make the buffeting worse? My initial thought was it would tighten it up so (hopefully) minimizing what's transmitted to the body

My Yukon Denali [it buffets and booms] is somewhere in the middle.

  • short wheel base
  • no sunroof
  • standard 20" wheels
  • 2nd row bench
  • no dvd
  • has magnetic suspension
  • 6.2L/8A/3.23's

It's worth noting that people should open a ticket with their dealerships. If this problem is as widespread as it is, this is the best hope of a timely resolution!

The Zip I believe your intentions are well placed BUT, you have made 165 plus posts.

Some good most are discussing the same post over and over or your opinion.

 

You don’t own one of the vehicles affected and are interpreting, clarifying the posts and expressing your opinion to a point that it might be better to allow the owners to process the information and resolve this problem

 

The people involved are well educated and doing a great job and are able to understand the post without your re explanations or suggestions.

I have also followed this thread and read all of the posts. This is my first post as I am on the sidelines and appreciate the information provided by the Owners affected with the issues and feel for the pain they are going through. I would like to purchase a Yukon but not till these issues are resolved.

It is very hard to predict these results. It could very well help on one stretch of road only to hurt on another.

 

If you have the booming, the Dynamat will help with that higher frequency noise. I don't think the Dynamat can help with the buffeting because that frequency is way too low.

 

I would say check to see if your roof is fastened to the bows and if not get that fixed first.

Lockwasher - You are on the sidelines and appreciate the information provided by the owners affected with the issues and feel for the pain they are going through. I am an owner not on the sidelines and my posting won’t be defined whether or not my truck is broken. I too feel the pain, you had to have seen that in one of those 165 plus posts. But, shouldn’t it be encouraging to an owner and prospective owner like yourself that I have the same truck in theory and it does not experience the issues associated with this thread?

I had my Yukon XL SLT at the dealer on Friday and the engineer didn't even bother driving it as he was fully aware of the issue. He told my dealer to schedule the service to be done at their body shop and to do the roof bow TSB. He agreed that many times fixing just one bow will not fix it and he claimed that they have had luck getting rid of the buffeting in many cases.

 

My dealer is fully aware to reattach all bows at a minimum and if possible add additional support to all of them even if they are all attached. Additionally, it sounds as if GM will give approval to add sound dampener as well. I didn't purchase the vehicle from this dealer and I must say they are almost as interested in getting this fixed as I am which is promising.

 

The dealer wants to reach out to Frank's dealer in Cali and get a detailed list of what they did as t hey too only want to pull the headliner one time.

 

I am also going to swap out the 22 with 20" wheels.

 

I will update once the work is completed.

I agree with zip, It's good to hear from people who don't have this issue also to compare why some have it and some don't, what's the difference, if it happened on letter production maybe they used cheaper sheet metal or cut done cornered somewhere or different manufacturer parts. If problem exist within same production dates maybe Rome just got lucky with better assembly. But hearing from owners that doesn't have the issue makes me ask how can it be overall design
