All buffeting, vibrations and air pressure issues will be resolved in 6-8 weeks when my new Denali will be delivered!! Keeping our fingers crossed for a new 2016 non-issue Denali. Ordered this one without a sunroof.

UPDATE: I've been experiencing similar buffeting noises in my 2016 Tahoe LT. After reading this forum, I was fairly sure that it was the "oil-canning" of the roof that was causing this issue. Well, yesterday I brought it the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and took the shop foreman for a ride. To his credit, he did not try to diagnose my problem before experiencing the noise for himself. However, during the ride he convinced me that the roof that is not causing this noise. He admitted that the early 2015s had a problem with the roof bows not being properly secured to the roof skin. However, that specific problem was fixed in later 2015s and the 2016s.

The shop foreman convinced me that the my problem relates to the vehicle's exhaust system. He stated that the full size SUVs and the Silverado have a problem with the exhaust that causes a pulsating droning sound in the cabin. The root of the problem has to do with how exhaust air flows through the system. Apparently there is an issue with the baffles in the muffler. The sound is particularly noticeable when the vehicle switches from V8 to V4 mode, which can be observed by selecting the appropriate display on the instrument panel. While the sound is most noticeable while in V4 mode, it can be heard in V8 mode as well. He said that GM is aware of the problem, and is working on a solution. He mentioned that GM has solved the problem for the Silverado truck line, but is still working on the SUV problem. The foreman had recently spoken to the GM field technician, who said that he expected a solution from GM by January 2016.

While there is no immediate fix for my problem, I'm happy that there is a solution in the works. Now we just have to see if GM follows through!

I hope this helps those with later 2015s and 2016s. I'll report back in January with an update.

(By the way, while I initially thought that my roof was the problem, I had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't. Let me tell you why... If the fluctuating cabin pressure sensation was being caused by the roof pulsating up and down, it should stop once you equalize the pressure by opening a window. However, in my car the sound is present regardless of window position.)

I really don't believe our issues (buffeting/pressure/boonming) are related to the exhaust. It happens at certain speeds regardless of RPM level. If it were exhaust related, it should go away when I coast in "N" with engine at idle RPM level. All of our issues are present when coasting down hill in "N" at speeds of 40+ mph.

By the way, there are many 2016s with same issues so you're service rep is not accurate as these issues are widespread with many new ones today.

Back at dealer today. GM engineer there to dive into my truck. Service manager said if they can't fix it this week they will be replacing my truck. Just hope there are SOME out there without issues.

The issues are likely due to multiple sources exciting particular parts of the truck. If the roof for example is floating it can be excited by air turbulence, road irregularities, or engine vibration when they lug it in V4 mode at 1050 RPM (or unbalance components). I think the goal here is to get the truck to reject much of this and tolerate imperfect car parts like other vehicles do.

Sharing an interesting read on another forum [silverado owner]...

The engineer told me there are a few issues with the K2X vehicles that are causing this. The most prevalent are the tires. He stated the tires made from their contractor, Continental (michelin, wrangler) have been made like crap for the newer models. He stated they also deform in shipping because of the way they are packaged. He stated a lot of these trucksicon1.png with the "famous shake" are fixed with what he called "GM Certified Tires". Apparently this is a tire straight from the plant in Michigan that has been tested on a vehicle already and certified no to shake by a Continental tire technician. Seems pretty intense for tiresicon1.png to me but thats what happening.

The second most prevalent issue is the driveshaft. He stated a large majority of these vehicles are being shipped out with out of balance driveicon1.png shafts which he believes is the easiest problem with these vehicles to diagnose.

The second third most prevalent issue is the ring gear and pinion. This engineer stated that he went through 2-3 new ring gear and pinions on some trucks until he found one that stopped the truck from shaking. He stated that these have not been forged to spec and some of the teeth are larger than others causing a shimmy/shake.

The fourth problem which he stated was the hardest for the engineers to pin down was a bent rear end/axle. He stated that the trucks made in the Salao Mexico Plant were put on a train and tied down by the axles for shipping to the states. He stated on a lot of the trucks the tie downs were cranked so tight and had tension on the axle for so long that the AXLES ACTUALLY BENT SLIGHTLY. He said that this only affected 2014's and some very early 2015's. he said they have since changed their shipping method so the problem does not keep happening.

ELRIP has the best advice

Someone else here changed rims and tires, I did the same now have 275/60/20 KO2s instead of the 22" stock setup

I didn't have vibrating issues but could feel booms and minor buffeting

Now buffeting almost non existent and booms not nearly as bad, huge improvement to me love driving the truck again and didn't have to have my roof ripped open yet

My Denali has the standard 20" wheels with Continentals and booms/buffets. I'm going to put my new KO2s [275/55/20 mounted on 20" Sierra AT wheels] ahead of the axle replacement to see if that makes a difference.

I did what the other post suggested, went to someone other than my dealer that had a road force machine and watched them do it with a printed receipt for me, all 4 under 15

Man this is all over the place. Wish we could establish what helped or didn't help and what needs to be corrected in that order

You're missing ELRIPs point, the key is to reduce vibrations/inputs into the vehicle

So some guys dynamat everywhere and tighten the roof - worked

I went to a more forgiving tire, more sidewall and annoyed the tire shop to keep swapping tires until we could get all four under 15 on the road force machine - worked

And so on and so on

Well, it looks like at least one automobile publication is going to be writing a story about these issues. I just got word that the news editor for a auto rag (can't say just yet) is "finalizing his story on the SUV issues" and asked for more information. I hope this is the bump we need to get GM to get off of their ass and do something. I will keep you all posted.

Well that should be an interesting article. Wonder if he spoke to GM as well?

I have a call into him to find out more. Hope so.

Thanks for getting someone to finally notice

Have you posted a complaint at the NHTSA site? If not, you need to do that.

My 2015 Yukon XL has been in the shop 4 separate times (3 separate GMC dealerships) for the buffeting noise for a total of 34 days in the shop. They have replaced the shocks, exhaust, drive shaft, tires and the last time they removed the headliner and re-glued the roof bows, ZERO improvement. Also when they removed the headliner they must have damaged the antenna because now I have no AM or FM stations and my phone will no longer sync. Have to put it back in the shop for those fixes. Also have dash warning saying side detection system needs service.
