That makes me wondering anyway...

When I do mods on my truck aren't I supposed to do necessary adjustments or even more modifications?

I mentioned in another thread before that I think after a lift or level job the head lights ought to be adjusted. Same with the speedo after installing bigger or smaller rims/tires.

What I know from Germany is that I'd have to go to the TUeV (kind of a technical safety check facility) and get an expertise about the safety and proper installation of the mod.

And they will give me a "certificate" (for the lack of words) what I have to show the officer when I get pulled over.

If I don't do so and have an accident I can loose my insurance coverage.

How is it work in North America?

so long

Every state has their own vehicle laws. Michigan for example has no safety inspections but if your vehicle is in violation of code, you can get stopped/ticketed. New Hampshire requires yearly safety/emissions testing and during that time, the technician would have to look for illegal mods like improper tail lights or tint. Lift laws are by bumper height. Personally I'll take the risk of some half wit doing a shoddy job, the government is already far too intrusive as it is. I imagine vehicles in Germany are kept in great condition but I don't think it's worth the trade off at having another agency with too much power.

Around here, speed limit is 55mph.....stay to the right if you're doing the limit....leave that lane, and you'll get run over.....I travel along with 90% of the traffic at 70mph, and stay out of the way of others who want to go faster.....if I get stopped, and ticketed, my fault....worst was 140 in a 55 at 3am in the morning, boy did I get a lecture....cop even admitted if I did not hit the brakes (when I saw him on the side of the road), he never would of even puled out.

What were you in??

If I got caught going that fast it'd probably be jail time, sounds like you got a nice cop.

No joke! The cop that got him must have been a speed demon himself. I knew a guy that had his firend and family shocked when they gave him his badge due to his driving record when he was a kid. He said after that wouldn't pull someone over for less than 20 so he wouldn't feel like a hypocrite.

Its the speed differential that can hurt or kill, and this has been studied and proven many time. . You know if an LEO really cares if you see just drive past the guy going 35 on the highway. Impeding Traffic is just as dangerous as a guy going 100, yet very rarely enforced.

Besides, speed doesn't kill. If it did, every day on the news you would hear about the Passenger jet where 250 people died because it hit 200 mph. The F22 that burst into flames because it was flying too fast. The NASCAR driver that dies from Speed Fatigue.

Doubt it. Thankfully the bill to require front plates seems to have died. As long as republicans keep in control I doubt you'll see any nanny state BS.

That happen to me in 1975 in good old New Jersey. The good old point system, three tickets in 2 years 11 months. One month to go on the first one, hit me for 90 days. last one was for 5 MPH over, 55 in a 50. Sure glad I live in Texas now. Since we moved to Texas in 79, the wife has more tickets than me, I haven't slowed down everyone else has sped up.
