Front rims get very hot rear stay cool

Can anyone with the 20 inch LTZ Z71 chrome rims confirm that the front rims get very hot and the rears stay cool.

I feel like the truck has loss of power sometimes and I am thinking its due to the front brakes dragging. Dealer says its normal. Sometimes the fronts get very hot and other times they are warm.

Please check yours and provide feedback. It is greatly appreciated.

Majority of braking is done up front. Usually, 70/30 to 80/20 front rear split. The rear brakes do less work than those fronts hence they will stay cooler.

Wheels and tires have nothing to do with heat generation or retention in the brakes.

My front rims get so hot that you could easily cook an egg on them, even on short drives, like 15 miles. This can't possibly be normal, can it?

Front bearings, possibly, but both RF and LF are acting exactly the same? Either they both get hot or they both are cool after a drive. Backs are always cool.

I thought maybe someone with the same rims would verify wether or not their truck does it.

I guess I will have to try another dealer.

I've got those wheels. I will check after my commute home this evening to see if mine get hot.

I have noticed that the front tires show higher tire pressures when driving. Maybe related. Maybe not.

My tire pressures in front run a tad higher than rear after you drive a while. Pretty sure its just because the front has more weight on it unless your hauling something. My old truck actually calls for 5 more PSI in the front than the rear. Like newdude said your front brakes work a lot harder than rear. I have the 20" GMC chrome wheels on mine. If I don't forget I'll check them tomorrow after about 30 miles.

It's most likely the brakes dragging. Don't go looking for more off the wall reasons before you check the most likely.

Do you use the parking brake? Is it electric actuator to apply/release like some cars?

I'm having parking brake release issues on my car - when it doesn't release fully, the rims get hot, otherwise they are cool to the touch.

parking brake is a cable and on the rear tires not the front.

My front wheels were warmer than the rears, but I wouldn't exactly call them hot...

Sometimes mine will just be warm and other times they are so hot you can't hold your hand on them. Both fronts act exactly the same. If the right front is hot or cool the left front will be the same.

Thanks for your feedback

Yes, I believe this also. Maybe the abs or stabiltrack is applying slight brake pressure to the fronts when it shouldn't be?

Thanks for your feedback

I use the park brake but I'm pretty sure when applied it activates the rear brakes not the fronts.
