Jennifer,

I worked with the chief engineer of the GM truck line extensively over the last 6 months on the radio issue. If GM really wanted to know the issues the consumers are having issues with they would be on this forum reading of the issues the owners are having and how the dealers seem clueless in regards to the issues.

I am still really surprised though for a clean sheet design that GM stuck with old school projector beam setup when HID has been out for years now, my wifes Lincoln MKX has HID from the factory and the lights are amazing at night.

That said would I like HID and a whiter light on the truck, sure. I don't find the current truck is any worse than the 2010 truck I replaced it with, just a really yellow color output and GM pointing the beams down to low at the ground due to having the trucks leave the factory jacked up in the rear.

That's about 15,000 lumens, 4300 in wide flat beams, 4300 in tight spots, and about 7000 in the headlights converted to HID. I think it's plenty for my needs on long trips across the country on the backroads.

How did you mount these? Wonder what kind of light they would provide behind a denali grill?

They're The Retrofit Source, Morimoto brand HIDs in the headlights. The fogs are standard bulbs. I'm looking into doing something about the fogs that's useful and has a 5000k color.

Other than the leather being pretty hard in my SLE, the main gripe that I have with the truck is the headlights really do suck. The lowbeams point so from the factory that going over 50 on a dark road is an adventure and the highbeams don't reach much farther. My old 2005 SLE had much better lights, and our 2007 Tahoe does too. Total light output is very even, but with headlights you really want a "hot spot" towards the center where the eyes stay focused (the human eye is less sensitive to light in the central focal zone than off to the sides). I am going to try the 9011 swap to see if that helps, guess the next step after that is the HID conversion. These really are great trucks overall, and I know that 1st year models often have bugs, but this one should have been caught in the design and testing stage.

Do you remember what model? Stage III (H1), Stage III (D2S) or matchbox stage III ??

I totally agree with the lights . They are not near bright enough. Even with the brights on.

I have to lower the brightness on the dash so I can see better at night. REmember u have that big 8" screen plus the screen on the dash that gives off a lot of light.

If I had good eyes don't think it would bother me that much but I don't and I am getting to the point of not wanting to drive at night. But these trucks have a lot of ambient lighting inside and this hurts being able to see out.

OP,

Try dimming the inside lighting which dims everything and see if that helps any. It does for me. But my wifes Camaro has much better head lights...

Just the stock SLT projectors with the base 35w Morimoto kit. No projector swap. They really are pretty decent projectors with the HID kit.

Am I the only one who doesn't think the headlights are total crap? Yea they could be better, but I don't think they are that bad.

try turning down the interior brightness while driving at night. It helps. The interior lighting is bright and it dilates your eyes making it harder to see down the road.

Maybe.

My take on the Sierra projectors is that the light is managed less optimally than with the GMT900. The HIR 9012 bulb puts out more light than a GMT900 bulb. But more of the light is focused in tight beams and less in a wider beam. So, you can see further down the road, but there is less peripheral lighting.
