What are the lightest wheels (GMC or Chevrolet) in 20" or 22"?

Thanks,

Dustin

The 20" will be lighter than the 22" but the lightest they offer will probably be the 17" aluminum.

Thanks for the constructive reply.

If anyone else has any info it would be appreciated.

Probably the lightest make of wheel suitable for a truck in normal use could be a Centerline or Weld wheel. Smaller diameter is a big difference in weight vs. larger

I don't think anyone has taken tires off and put the stock rims on a scale, so you may have a hard time getting that answered. What is your reason for asking specifically? If it's unsprung weight reduction then I would focus more on what size tires you need for your application, more weight there than in the wheels. Then I would look as others have stated at Weld or similar wheels as they are designed with weight and racing in mind. The stock wheels are not going to be focused on weight reduction.

Do ya one better. The OEM 20" five spokes are 38lbs for the polished aluminum, 41lbs for the chrome 5 spoke aluminum. The 22" accessory ones are in the range of 43-46lbs depending on design. The 22" tires that they use (285/45/22 Bridgestone Dueler AT RHS) comes in at 45lbs. The 275/55/20 Goodyear Wrangler SRA is 39.5lbs. So... the 20" tire and wheel combo come in near 77-80lbs, the 22" from 88-91lbs. The 17" aluminum 5spoke, and the OEM 265/70/17 Bridgestone Dueler AT RHS come in at 67.35lbs. Wheel is 26.35lbs, tire at 41lbs.

The 18" aluminum on my GMC SLE Z71 has to be one of the lighter ones since they are so open?

I know I get exceptional gas mileage, and my thinking is they are a contributor? The less weight you have to rotate, the better it will be for mileage, IMO.

Unsprung weight reduction is the reason. I just don't want to start off with the heavier wheel and have no idea what the weight differences are between the different options.

Wow, that really helps. I am asking because I am wanting to go to 20" or 22" wheels for the smaller side wall and looks but want to keep the overall weight down as much as possible.

On my GMT-900 the weights I got for my 17" wheels and tires were:

steel 17" wheel - 31.5 lbs

aluminum 17" wheel - 25 lbs

265/70R17 all season tire 34 lbs

steel total weight - 65.5 lbs

aluminum total weight - 59 lbs

Basically though I am going up 10 lbs with the 20s and 20 lbs with the 22s. It is nice to know that the chrome plated wheels are a few pounds heavier.

I will look into aftermarket wheels as well, but am mostly curious about the weights of the OEM options.

Did you try both sets?

It would be interesting if 6.5 lbs make a noticable difference in the ride comfort and stability of the truck.

I didn't try out the lighter combo but went up in weight 35.5 lbs instead with off road tires. I can really tell they are heavier, especially in braking. I don't know at what weight difference it is noticeable but on this set I want to keep the weight down as much as possible.

I know I'm bringing this back like Jesus, but thanks! I just bought some 22" Dub's that weigh 41lbs and some 305 dynapros that weigh 45lbs. Its nice to know that my setup is going to be one size bigger than stock 22's and will still be around the same weight.
