I found some rust on one of my crew cab door rocker panels and I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what it would cost to have it repaired?

Thanks, I saw a video on it and it looked like it would take some time to repair for myself.

I work at a body shop and in the long run it will be well worth it to have it professionally repaired. Sorry

Rust is lik cancer, once you get it it's hard to get rid of.

You're better off to replace a whole chunk than try repair the panel that's infected.

Unless you work in a body shop, it's not really a DIY repair.

Especially once it's that bad. Just replace the panel, it'll be a better use of time and money.

My 2007 seems to be doing this ( cab corners and rockers ) kinda sucks but my plan is this spring or next fall to have local body shop replace inner outer and cab corners.

I'll have the outside factory painted to color match, but will be spraying oil on the inside of the rocker panels ( or fluid film, whatever i got laying around )

Too bad it wasnt an option on GM trucks to get rockers and cab corners in stainless steel.... or Aluminum or something that doesnt corrode nearly as bad... Poor truck is 7 years old and I have to replace the rockers already ( damn roads )

2011 sd here and rust all over engine bay and inside dash panel

first and last american truck i ever buy

Last time I checked, steel from any part of the world will rust. If you think Yota's, Nissan and the like do not have rust issues, think again. It wasn't that long ago entire frames were being replaced on Yota trucks due to severe rust problems.

The world we live in is an unforgiving environment, and driving a vehicle is unforgiving to that vehicle. If you live in an area where your roads/weather are severe and they put down a lot of chemicals/salt to remedy that, you need to be more aggressive with maintenance. Every few months I get under my truck with disposable coveralls, gloves, a face mask, and I spray everything with fluid film. This summer will be 4 years of owning my 2011, and no rust issues to date, and I live in a place where it rains 7 months of the year!

This reminds me of people complaining about their spare tire not coming down when they need it. Well, when you leave something unattended for years, than expect it to work after no maintenance, what did you think would happen? Each time I do my fluid film coating, I lower my spare, soak the entire cable mechanism in fluid film, pump up the tire, and put it back up there. This summer, I needed the spare. It came down with no issues, went back up with no issues.

Granted, you cannot prevent everything, but you can sure make a vehicle last longer with steady, aggressive maintenance.

Luck favors the prepared.

How about some photos? Some might be normal and happen on any vehicle (manifold rust)

Literally, Fluid Film.

I get this stuff very cheap through work and I have found it does wonders. I actually discovered it through my boss, who told me about applying it to drill press tables to stop the solid cast iron from flash rusting. The benefit is, it not only serves as a protection coating, but it is also a lubricant and a rust inhibitor. I spray my door hinges with it every few months, they still all look brand new with no rust and no missing paint. Just be careful how much you spray, a little goes a long ways. The smell is also quite offensive if you apply too much. It doesn't stink like chemicals, more like a sweet, sour kind of honey.
