Oil Fill Cap Gasket Leaking? - 2014 Sierra 5.3L

Hi All,

I noticed today when checking my dipstick that it looks like the oil fill cap gasket (not the green one on the actual cap itself) the flat black washer looking gasket on the filler neck, it looks like I can move it around and it looks like there was some oil that came past it and ran down the valve cover. Anybody else experiencing this, or is this a know issue and is there a fix? Thanks in advance!

Did you have your oil changed recently? Could just be some overspill.

I had it changed about a month ago. I cleaned the oil off after the fill and this seems to be new. If you wiggle the cap around the gasket moves as well and I can see a little bit of oil underneath it. Could be nothing, but just wanted to see if anybody had come across this yet.

It's his truck but not his problem? Hmmmmm.....

Anyways if you are looking to possibly solve the problem yourself vs. warranty looks into removing the plastic piece that goes over the valve cover. This is basically a trim piece. Removing it should give you a better view of the oil fill neck.

Agreed, it's my problem since I have to stop what I'm doing and take it in. I am trying to troubleshoot minor issues myself since my last truck spent 55 days at the dealer in the first 6 most I owned it before GM bought it back so I am trying to stay out of the shop as much as possible with this one!

New cap, problem solved?

Its not the cap itself but the filler neck with the gasket that moves around. Not sure if this is normal or not.

No apparent leaking here but I'm not going to go wiggling anything to check. I can't imagine this is anything more than an inconvenience to you taking it in to get it replaced.
