I found an Iphone setting that helps when using navigation on the phon

For those of you with the standard 8" Mylink without factory navigation, this may or may not be some valuable info.

 

I found an Iphone setting that will allow the voice navigation instructions on the phone to interrupt whatever is playing on your radio be it FM, AM or Sirius. I previously was only able to have my phone play me the voice navigation instructions when I had the Mylink in "media" mode. Now if a turn is coming up, the FM, AM or Sirius will mute itself and allow the voice navigation instructions to come through the speakers. Unfortunately this setting does not help with text/ email notifications while listenining to the radio, they still only come through in "media" mode.

 

Attached are some screen shots to show the setting. You have to first input your destination on the phone, then hit "directions to here". You will then see the following 2 screens...

Do you have to reset the volume to this setting every time?

It is a feature that was first introduced by Apple in IOS 7. Your IPHONE must be connected to your truck via bluetooth for it to work.... If you don't have an IPHONE or use Apple's map progam then I don't know what to tell ya...

I have IOS 8.1.1 and an Iphone 5. My point is that Apple maps sucks compared to google maps.

 

I didn't know I had to be connected to bluetooth in the truck before that menu would show up. Thanks for clarifying.

Is this an Apple Maps Navigation thing only?

I have looked around Google maps (which I like much better) and couldnt find a setting to allow this. It works great with Apple maps, and I really like this capability.

hmm. I wish Google maps had this. Apple maps cant even find my house...
