2015 Tahoe is hard to start when engine is cold

fondupot - based just on your comment and not factoring in outside temps or some other underlying issue, longer crank times can't be normal. My truck cranks within a couple of seconds of the starter being engaged (versus yogi11 7-10 seconds). But if what you say is correct, I have an abnormal cranking truck.

Here is another update on my problem. The scanned code on the Tahoe was "P00C6" which is fuel rail pressure to low. The dealer had my vehicle for 10 days to replace the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve and then called me to say it was fixed. The following day after getting it home the Tahoe is having a hard time starting just like before and it was that way for the next three days and then I get the service engine alarm on my dash again. I'm now taking it to a different dealer to see if they can fix this problem.

New update: The new dealer told me they got the same scanned code as before and that they think it is a bad fuel pump which they have ordered. Now its parked at the dealer waiting for parts again. So far this vehicle with only 1100 miles on it has been sitting at a dealer waiting to get fixed for more than 13 days.

Parts changers, throw them parts till we change something for the better, and pretend that change is equal to the bounty at the end of a rainbow......

 

Interesting statistic that's not scientific, 1 out of every 100 stealership parts changers is actually a mechanic.

 

If you are on here and work at a stealership and offended, thankfully you are likely the only "1" in your shop.

the longer crank times are because of the direct injection. its normal.

But not 7 -10 seconds, unless it is extremely cold (like below -30F)

 

 

Direct Injection engines may have slightly longer cold crank times than that of port fuel injected engines. Direct Injection systems run at higher pressures and the mechanical pump on the engine must build up the required pressure before the first injection event occurs.

 

Following are typical DI engine crank times using gasoline:

Another update: The dealer put in the new fuel pump and that did not fix the problem. They are going to call GM for help on what to do next. So far this vehicle has been sitting at dealers for 17 days now while they try and fix it.

Hopefully this is my last update: The dealers next try was to put in a high pressure fuel pump that is located under the intake manifold. After they pulled the manifold they found that #4 fuel injector was leaking so they replaced that. I picked up the vehicle yesterday and now we will see if this fixed the problem. This vehicle was sitting at two different dealers for a total of 20 days while they kept guessing and throwing parts at it.

I do understand that you can get a new vehicle and have a problem which I accept. But when you bring it to a dealer you expect an accurate diagnosis and a timely repair which I did not get.

I had an 08 GMC which kept throwing a random misfire code. Like yours, it was in the dealer forever, time and time again. They kept trying cheap fixes here and there. I always had a nice loaner so I was patient.

 

Finally they replaced all my pistons and rings. That fixed it...crazy.

7-10 seconds cranking time is not normal and replacing the bad fuel injector fixed the problem. Now the Tahoe starts in about 2 seconds like it should.

Hello All,

 

Took my 2015 Tahoe in today for this same issue. Service manager states there is a TSB for this concern. I will let you know what work was completed to resolve and if it worked.

I am not happy that my 2020 Tahoe with 1326 miles will not start the first time. There is no reason for this, warranty or not! you don’t market a vehicle that is not reliable or safe to be on the road. Extremely upset about this and will filing a formal complaint. The truck is basically a lemon

    • I'm not sure if this should be a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - AC Delco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles, 119k total miles.  When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so I did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out, it could've been the wrong fluid. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material, scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance. I had a panic stop prior to this issue which may have contributed from what I read. And on the first attempt to bleed and hydraulic test the scanner listed things to look for and one was any gaps between the pad and rotors which I did notice on the RF corner and I removed the outer pad (where the gap was) cleaned it and the hardware and didn't see a gap after that but will re-check it. I read that if pushing the caliper pistons back then you're supposed to open the bleeder so as to not push fluid backwards into the abs module or it will damage it. If that's true then that's also a possibility from the previous owner having the brakes changed before I got it. I'm using an XTool ip500 scanner. Any suggestions, questions and comments welcome. 
    • Next Friday will be my 6 week point from my right knee replacement.  The surgeon says it will be fine if I choose to drive after this checkup.  I know I could drive now but best to do as my surgeon (and my wife) tell me.  Richard compared being 62 to 72.  I remember when I was in my early 60's I was experiencing slow but regular decline in my mobility.  Thanks to good medical support,  i continued to fight the speed and spread of this decline. During my 60's I worked on non-surgical methods and just when I turned 70, my orthopedic surgeon recommended joint replacements.  In a little over a year, I had one shoulder and both knees replaced.  This hasn't been a terribly fun experience, but worth the discomfort as my future mobility health trajectory has reversed.  It is a treat to now be watching my mobility. balance and confidence steadily improve!
